I'm going to Modify the queston a bit.

Do you think that college students should be educated through Videos and signs showing the horrifying procedure Abortion?

I'll give best answer to whoever can explain the importance of this.

To everyone across the whole campus guys, not just to those who are going to medical school.

Deep thought,

Yes, the class would be instructed with a Pro-Life representative present, maybe several, and after the Video is over the class will have an open discussion about the procedure - Classmates argue their sides with each other and with the instructor of the video.

And hopefully come to a more reasonable solution on how we can discontinue this heinous crime.

Thanks.

LBee,

And college students may be adults physically, but far from mentally.

(Going to obscene spring break parties and such.)

GJ,

Did you take a look at the "Justice for All" Link on abortionno.org?

That's a very good site, I think everybody should take a look at the Justice for All link.

Thanks.

Yes. If more people could actually see what an aborted "fetus" looks like and the sheer violence of the act they might realize what they are destroying. It seems that many do not want others to see these images because then more people will have a visual representation of one of the most heinous acts imaginable.

It is scary to think that some consider presenting the truth of the procedure to be propaganda.

I seriously doubt that this would change anyone's mind. By college age most people have already established their views.
Part of the problem in the debate is that the evidence has been so skewed by Pro Lifers that many believe that all abortions are late term. These videos that get circulated (usually late term) are designed to disgust and twist the facts.
Here is the real data from a Pro Life site.
http://www.abortionno.org/Resources/fastfacts.html

Personally, like most Americans, I don't like abortion. I am against anything after the first trimester. I think that the first procedure for anyone getting one, outside of rape or incest, should be a solid "dope slap" up side the head for being so irresponsible.

EDIT (8/23/07):

Thanks for the link. I found it duely disgusting and has not moved me from my position one iotta. I tend to get stubborn whenever anyone tries to beat me over the head with their viewpoint and take a stance that they have "inside", absolute knowledge and answers to the unanswerable questions of life. There are larger issues at play in our world that enable the path towards abortion. Why is it that some stand in stark fear of discussing human sexuality and intimacy in an open and factual way with our young people? Just saying no only invites trouble for teens who are already feeling the pull of adulthood. Our overly competitive culture leaves very little time for deeper understanding of spirituality and the mentoring of our young. Abortion is a symptom of a social system that leaves little room for human concerns.
I know that there is no compromise on this issue for either side. This is what makes it a great tool for distracting us from larger issues in the political arena.

Let's take the moral judgement and strong emotion out of the question.
Who is showing college students abortion video?
Medical/Healthcare courses?
Ethics?
Law classes?
College students are adults. What is the purpose of showing the footage? Is the facility showing it attempting to frighten or disgust? Educate or instruct?
Too many questions here to provide a reasonable answer.

A better use of the money would be to require each student, at Orientation, to sit through a two-hour seminar on sex, pregnancy, STDs, AIDS, contraception, abortion, date-rape drugs, alcohol, and the federal penalty for rape. They should be given a copy of this on DVD to take home with them.

Abortion is not the problem, it's a symptom. The problem is unwanted pregnancies. It stands to reason that if there were no unwanted pregnancies, there would be no abortions.

Solve the problem.

I think it's a germane suggestion for those who either consider getting an abortion, or basing all of their political energy on the subject of abortion.

The vast majority of the people won't be in these groups.

Further, I think that most are desensitized to gore from all the horror films, and it may not have the impact you desire.

The information should be available to those who seek it.

In medical school sure, as a part of their training for performing the procedure.

Other than medical school it would be nothing but Pro-Life propaganda.

Have you ever seen the horribly violent and bloody videos of a knee replacement? They saw your knee out of your body, drill out your marrow and hammer in the new knee.

The body bounces all over the table during the hammering.

Almost all surgical medical procedures are grotesque.
If you forced people to watch a medical procedure of any type, people would be more likely not to have that procedure done even if it would save their life.

It is legal, get over it. The government does not get to decide what we can and cannot do with our own bodies or dictate our medical decisions.

Well, it depends on the class and context. Med students, I can see needing to know it. People who study Poli Sci, Social work and psychology probably need to know. People studying music can probably pass on it.

Also, is the presentation there to teach or indoctrinate? Will all view points be available for debate. The procedure in and of itself is gruesome. showing that without context does nothing worthwhile.

The time, money and attention would be better spent making sure that high school students receive an extremely thorough sex education including information on STDs, pregnancy rates in the US as compared to other developed countries, abortion rates in the US compared to other developed countries. Also, the availability of contraception should be greatly increased.

You folks call it a heinous crime - then REFUSE to allow sex education, birth control, etc.. to be taught.
As if your abstinence programs solve a thing.Prove is in the pudding -as they say-as it's mainly Red States leading the way in teenage pregnancy and abortions.
