Not the best way to go about it, I tried weed when I was 12 because of my brothers influence. Became a addicted for a while, stopped, I sometimes have it now and I'm 15. The society we live in today is pressuring Drink Drugs and Sex. Kids will try it, but actually doing it infront of him? Thats plain dumb. I never seen my brother do it but he told me about it and stuff. I think you should let him take his course as a 21st century kid. At the end of the day whether any of you parents like it or not your kids will end up trying drugs, you just gotta make sure they don't end up taking the stupid ones. I know all drugs are bad but seriously, would you rather them trying a joint or a syringe? And area, or upbringing has no influence on a kid what-so-ever I first tried it in Gorton (A rough place) I came to Stalybridge (Niceplace) And kids were still doing it, even worse I seen some sniffing Cocaine. Trying to stop a kid doing drugs isn't going to work. Just make sure they don't try the reallly messed up ones. And as for drink, I think adults should introduce it as mine didn't and what happened to me? I got really drunk not knowing how much I could handle, taken home by the police and nearly dead. And also, it's easier for a kid to get a 10 bag of weed, then a can of Strongbow. I know I'm gonna get loads of thumbs downs but it's the reality of today.

well im not sure. most teenagers dont have any common sense. you know what i think? i think parents should stop giving kids " the talk " when they're like 13 years old. i think that should be delayed until maybe 20. or 18 at the least. school health classes should stop teaching reproduction systems. it is giving them an idea and pressuring them to try it out. drugs? drugs should not be drunk by anyoen in my opinion. it should only be availiable to pharmicies and doctors. why are so many young girls having babies u ask? they probably watch TV. i know i do. on TV there are so many movies/news/shows talking about sex or refering to it. i dont see why we cant exclude all this nonsense from our community. adults are the ones who are irrisponsible. they should be watching wat they're kids do. america is the country where most of this happen. other countries where parents are ' over preotective ' dont ever let this happen. they are not over protective.... they are doing whats best for they're children. when i first came to this country i was watching TV one say and it was crazy! commercials showing under wear, birth control ads, tampon ads!! a show i was watchign was showing two ppl getting into bed ready get their selves on...
i cannot believe this world i am living in. and the USA has such great opportunities! thats why i still live here. great schools, and education for everyone
i agree with you. Life is for living not flushing down the loo...
Live life and succeed. There will be plenty of time to be growing up.

I am 23 and have never tried drugs. Didn't even drink until I was 22. Even now drinking is only once in a blue moon. The kids need to be self motivated. Some say it the environment, lack of confidence, maybe low self esteem, or the brain is not developed completely. Some of those may be true but I did not grow up with all of the confidence, good environment, or high self-esteem and look I have no babies and no drugs. Like I said it is all about self motivation you don't do it unless you want to and. They need to have power over their mind, body, and soul.

The person with the solution to this problem should win a noble prize. Kids do stupid things for so many reasons, to fit in, to escape, etc. Parents play a significant role in this, but at some point we have to say, "they no better yet they still choose to behave in this manner" and hold them accountable for their actions. This site and many others are excellent examples of children behaving badly or in desperate need of good guidance! From the constant "Am I fat?" questions from young girls to the rude and disrespectful things that get said. It's heartbreaking. I can only be thankful my mother never allowed me to behave that way and taught me to hold myself accountable for my actions. I hope when I'm a mom I can do the same for my children.

I have not or ever taken drug, nor have i know anyone who has taken any drugs. As for sex i'm sure it's always been there. As for having babies i think that young sex education, tv programmes help towards young people exploring sex. Peer pressure does not help. I am young and think that harsher punishments should be bought in to teens.
A mini prison camp should be bought in for those having sex under 16 and i think that adverts that show really bad things like how you can die from durgs, child birth, STDs.

some kids just get bored with their lives because they have no direction. if everyone was as concerned or interested in their kids lives as you are then you wouldn't need to ask such a question. but unfortunately not everyone cares. bottom line, drugs make you feel good and sex makes you feel good but most kids only think about the present and don't worry about the horrible consequences they might encounter in the future.

Sad to say, I am one of those teenage girls.
But I do not do any type of drugs and I am a proud virgin.
I think the reason most girls do these things is because someone else wants them to or they are just curious and then can't stop after starting.
I think life should be cherished, as well as you do.
It frustrates me that so many girls my age screw up their lives with dumb decisions such as drugs, sex, alcohol, et cetera.
Not only are they hurting the reputation of all of us, but they are hurting themselves.
I work hard to try and STOP this nonsense. :)
We're not all crazy. -wink.-

If the drugs and booze weren't so readily available, they wouldn't be using them. Criminal elements in our society, such as the drug sellers and mob-types, are only out to make money and do so by selling addictive substances to the most malleable segment of our society - our young people. And we all know that young people are, yes I'm generalizing here, prone to making some pretty poor decisions which is part of the learning of growing up. But when those decisions continue to deteriorate due to addiction, subsequent actions may suffer from bad judgment as well (unwanted pregnancies). It's tough to grow up today. We're all bombarded with images that highlight the rich vs. poor, war-torn vs. peaceful, "sexy" vs. socially undesirable - it goes on and on. Kids want to both be considered individuals and to simultaneously "belong" to something to feel accepted - and some days it doesn't much matter what it is. I do agree that the role of parents is critical here. They set the values, ground rules and lead by example. If mom and/or dad have rap sheets as long as their arms, if the coffee table decorations are drug paraphernalia, if gunshots punctuate the conversation instead of complements - it would take extraordinary strength and fortitude to grow up differently.

Drugs: new experiences/thrills/can't get the thrills without spending millions of pounds. They can also do it because they are curious/can't see or unconvinced of the long term damage.
Teenage pregnancy: mistake from not using protection? don't have a life purpose? felt they have been through everything life has to offer?
Usually these people do not have a strong sense of what they want to do in life or they feel that their life's purpose is lost. If they are more determined, they will spend more of their lives in pursuing a cause rather than becoming vicitmised by an effect (my theory).

Probably because their homes lives are crap and they need some form of escape. And having a baby is a weird way of taking control of your life...i.e. you build your family to get away from the fact that yours are downright horrendous.
When I was a teenager, I made sure I had a part-time job AND a busy social life, just to get me out of the house. I couldn't hang around there too long, what with all the biatching and whatnot. My mother was a nightmare!!!
Now I'm a parent I've finally discovered what it's like to be a member of a family that isn't down on you all the bloody time...
