They are more concerned with your ability to stock shelves and do customer service. Nobody in the place knows what they are talking about (if you ask them a question) so it's not a big deal for you to apply there.

A pretty face or not, neither should keep you away from you goal. Go and fill out a job application and schedule an interview. The interviewer will recognize your interest in hardware and should/might give you a position where you can learn to most. Probably at the registers where you will be on a get acquainted basis with all the hardware language. Occasional strolls down the isles will allow you to know where things are so you can direct the customers when they ask you directions. The rest of the learning process just takes time and you will know when you are ready to take on a particular department or not. Just go through the usual progression of advancements and you'll make it! Way to go girl!

Well, if you are really interested in construction and stuff you are probably overqualified. If you can show them an ability to disappear when needed or respond to any request with, "this isn't my department", then you should be a shoe-in.

Go for the job. They usually train you. The last female I had help me in plumbing at HD was lost. She was very nice though and didn't try to act like she knew everything.
