Try harder. Have a look at the definition of father.

I handled a court case for a father. (This is UK law - but US law maybe similar). This is a true case.

He wasn't married to the mother.
She was married to another man but separated.

The mother put his name on the birth certificate. So she declared him as the father because she was in a relationship with him. (father 1) He was not the natural father.

All children born in a marriage are the children of the husband (father 2). She didn't want to divorce her husband because he had cancer and she was about to inherit.

And finally, the natural father was due to an affair the woman had in the marriage(father 3)

I think I know what you're getting at.

Say a gay couple get's married in a state where it's legal. Both will be the 'father' of a child that either has durring the marriage, not a step-father. That's two.

Now, say one has a sister, and the other is sterile, but they want to start a family. So, they get the sterile spouse's brother to contribute the needed sperm, and have the other's sister act as the surrogate. The resultant child has two legal fathers (each, biologically, his uncle), and a biological father.

In the legal sense, only one person can be a child's father at any given time in terms of having final say in the parental rights, although if the defined "father" is incapacitated, the responsibilities can pass onto the godfather.

In a family sense, a child can have as many fathers as they are willing to assume the role. I personally know a few multi-parent (as in, more than two parent) households, growing up in a liberal area where such lifestyles are accepted.

Biologically, obviously no.

Legally, also no. A child can only have two legal guardians at any given time so the most you could have would be two fathers. (ie gay couple adopt).

Emotionally, sure, there are step fathers, loco parentis fathers, adoptive fathers, biological fathers, godfathers and plenty of other people within a community that can assume the father role of a child.

Maybe, but that is just being greedy.
Especially with so many children with NO father.
No child should require more than one father.

It's time that we as a nation finally put our foot down on this type of father wastefulness.
It's bad for the child, bad for the father(s), and bad for our country!!!

Yes a biological father, Step father and grand father. That is the only way I can see this happening.

Biologically, a child only has one father.

You can imagine in the semi-near future that the DNA of one father might be put in the sperm from another father, but as of yet, that hasn't been done.

Of course, when we're talking about non biological fathers, I guess there's no limit...

A child can have as many mommies and daddies as people want! A week ago i would have given a more conservative answer, but I have learned my lesson. "right wing" view points will get your account deleted for posting hateful material.

Biologically No! Other wise yes. I have three mothers, my real mother and two stepmothers. I love them all and know that they have all contributed to my up bringing.
