It would help to know what you're ironing.
For a basic man's dress shirt, you iron in this order:
-Collar
-Upper back panel (not the whole back of the shirt, but the panel just below the back of the collar)
-One cuff, then the sleeve
-The other cuff, then the sleeve
-The body of the shirt, starting with the front panel with the button holes. Work in a circular way--that is, after the section with the button holes, pull the part under the arm pit onto the board. Then the back left side, middle, back right side, right underarm, and lastly the front panel with the buttons.
Use steam when you first start ironing a panel, then turn the steam off and go over the panel it until it's dry. Then move on to the next panel.
For pants that can be ironed (check the label), do the top part first, fitting the waistband over the pointy end of the ironing board (like the board is putting the pants on. Iron the top part and down the legs as far as you can, moving the pockets out of the way of the iron. (You'll get imprints of them if you don't.) Take the pants off the board and put one leg on the board with the inner part of the leg facing up, making sure the crease is even. Iron that part, then flip the leg over and gently iron the outer part of the leg, making sure you don't put any wrinkles into the side you just ironed. Then do the other leg the same way.
For temperatures and such, make sure you read the garment's label to know how hot to have the iron.
I hope that is what you were looking for.

Make sure the whole garment is slightly moist when you start, this will make it easier!
Also try some spray starch, start with just a little, but it will keep the ironed look a lot longer!
