I don't know what the symbol -/ is supposed to mean. If you're saying 1/6 = a/12, just cross-multiply.

1*12 = 6*a ==> 12 = 6a ==> a = 2

If you're saying 1/6 = a*sqrt(12), just divide both sides by sqrt(12) to get a = 1/(6*sqrt(12)), rationalize to a = sqrt(12) / (6*12) = sqrt(12) / 72, and simplify to a = sqrt(3) / 36.

1/6=a-1/2
One sixth equals "a" minus one half. Right?

then a=+1/6-1/2 . You do the math. Find the common denominators and calculate.
