i've told them twice before to stop, but as soon as the car leaves the driveway, they think that the house is empty and that they can play with no-one knowing...i can have windows open, TV on and still they play.

They come back simply because you asked them not to. The very act of talking to these kids and expressing your disapproval made your place all the more appealing. I think that when they come over to play in your yard, you may have to go and join them. Take over their games...become the leader. The more you join them, the more you will spoil their fun and the mystique of playing in your yard will be over. Join them enough and they will find somewhere else to go. No kid wants to play with an adult all the time.

I'm with 'spitfyr' on this one, my gardens are made to be be entered by kids of all ages. One way to set boundaries would be to ask a couple of them to help with a few chores around the yard. If given even a small part to play in the upkeep of a garden the more prone they will be to help preserve it. I rank children's laughter way above any TV, right up there with frogs and crickets - all good! RScott

Are they causing damage? If so, then talk to their parents. If not, then what is it hurting to hear the laughter of children. They are obviously drawn to your garden because it is lovely. Maybe you could just set some ground rules with the kids so that your garden stays in tact.

Kid Friendly gardeners ROCK.

I read of a shop having the same problem and the owner moved them on by playing classical music. The trouble makers didn't hang around for long.

We have local community police officers that patrol the area,i had the same prolem, spoke to the officers they came pass and when they saw the children they had a word with them, also letting them know that the fence of mine they were damaging meant they could be in trouble for criminal damage.the lads now go to the massive park at the end of the road!!

Have you talked to the parents??? That's an obvious one. If the parents are not approachable, call your local police department and ask for information about making a complaint. Do NOT build a fence, that is just dumb.

A fence might work. Or you could try sprinklers set on motion detectors, though that might invite more activity by way of running through the water and thus destroying your grass...

and it is important to you that not destroy your hard work.
talk to them like adults???###*

add bits to divide the area up so that there isnt running around space for them to play on also try and make it look as if someone is working out there and they will find somwhere else to go.

Land mines are a good solution, problem is that the present nanny state will not let you lay them. But if you tell the little b*****ds to clear off they can stab you.
