I'm 23 years old and have 2 daughters. Upon the birth of my second daughter I informed my doctor that I was interested in having a tubal ligation but his response to me was that I was too young and he then suggested oral contraceptives. In reality was is there a required age for this procedure? or does that depend on the doctor himself?

It is totally up to the doctor or the clinic. The doctor may he forcing his own brand of morals on you. If you can’t get it done there, go to another doctor or clinic. It is that simple. Don’t let anyone tell you that some law says you have to be a certain age. It has nothing to do with the law, they are pulling your leg.

I had a vasectomy when I was 21. I never had kids. My girlfriend had her tubal in her mid 20’s, with no kids. If we can get them done with no kids at all you should have no problem, having two.

there is no required age. Doctors don't like to do it in women under 30, because often in the twenties things change in a woman's life and she wants to have another child....usually because she has a new husband. But if you know your own mind and are determined that you will never bear another child, then you have the right to get a tubal ligation at any time.
The key is finding a doctor willing to do this for you.

Well this is a touchy situation. Most doctors if you have had at LEAST one viable birth will do the procedure. Some doctors go by your age. The reason they don't like to do tubal's to woman in their 20's are because the chances are likely that you will want more children. They have reversal procedures but they usually don't work. If you doctor is adamant about not doing the procedure and your 100% SURE you don't want any more children you will most likely have to switch doctors.

I have heard somewhere that Dr.'s wont do it unless you have 3 kids or are at least 25 years old.
I am 28 and have 3 kids. I had mine done after my last child.
My advice would be to be absolutely certain about it. You need to really think hard on that one. You are young and may want kids when you are 30. If you changed your mind in a couple years it would be hard to reverse it. There isn't a big success rate of pregnancy and the its is expensive.
