You will not be naked. You will be wearing a hospital gown that is just pulled up when they check for dilation and when delivery is near. Your top will be covered at all times. I am pretty sure that even with a C Section, you are still in a hospital gown, they just pull it up to make the incision.
If your hospital wants you to be naked, I would TELL them you will not do that and that you will be wearing a T shirt or something. (if you do this, make sure it is not a 'good' T shirt, as it may get ruined with the messiness of delivery or if they cut it off of you in an emergency C section.
Good luck, and remember, this is YOUR birth experience...you shoudl be allowed to do whatever YOU want to do, as long as it is within reason.

If the nurse is so into this then perhaps she should also teach your childbirth class naked LOL
After 3 boys, I can say with 100% certainty that you are absolutely allowed to wear a gown during the entire labor and that there is no reason in the world why you would have to be completely naked while giving birth. Even women who choose to give birth in the water/tubs wear sports bras if they want!
I believe you should try to find another Childbirth class because this nurse sounds a little wacky!
PS - I would also recommend getting the book "What to Expect When You're Expecting". It goes through each and every month, delivery, aftercare, etc. You should not be worrying about things someone told you that was bad advice, and this book will answer all of your questions. Good luck!

The nurse at the hospital will give you a gown that covers the front with the back opened (a couple strings to tie the back). However, you need to remove everything underneath. When the baby is ready to come out, you'll be half way naked. The nurses and the doctor will see you, but you'll be so busy pushing, you won't remember that you're naked.

Oh, you sweet thing. Don't worry!! Really.
You DO NOT have to be naked in labor.
You'll be in a hospital gown. But trust me, you won't care if you're naked or not.
With my son, the gown would bunch up on me while I was cringing in pain. So, I threw the gown & blankets off of me. I laid there stark naked and when the nurses would try to cover me up, I yelled at them. Trust me - if you're in real labor - you won't care.
With my daughter, it was an easier labor and I was covered up. Not to say, during a contraction - if my bare bottom was showing or not - I don't know. Didn't care. But, when it was time to push, that's when the doctor lifted up my gown (same as when you've been examined at the OB)

When that baby is just about ready to show him/her self, and you are pushing, you won't care at all, whether you're dressed, or not. You will have a hospital gown on, tied in the back, so don't worry. The only thing anyone is going to be concerned with, is the birth...honestly, they won't be paying any attention to much else, just how you and baby are doing.
My daughter was very modest as well and wanted no-one in the room with her, except for me (mom) & her boyfriend. Once that boy was out, and getting cleaned, she sent for her dad to come in while they were still performing her episiotomy. Since then, she's not so modest. Not even with breast feeding him.
I have a feeling that once the baby's born, you too, may lose some of the modesty you have. Please don't worry, you'll be fine and so will your new baby.
Take care

I have never heard of having to be totally naked during labor. You will have to be naked from the waist down for obvious reasons =) but there's no reason for your top not to be covered. I was able to wear a big t-shirt of my husbands during labor and I remember my sister and sister-in-law who gave birth at different hospitals then me were both wearing hospital gowns. At times the shirt did have to be pulled up for monitoring and things like that, but I don't remember at any point having to expose my top.

That's really odd that they would tell you that you *have* to be naked. I've had two children and I was able to have clothes on, both times. They usually get you into a hospital gown after you get there, or perhaps a gown of your own, if you bring one. Otherwise, I would suggest something like a sports bra, if they really do insist that you be naked. I would assume that the nurse is wrong on that, though.

I don't know where this nurse comes from but I never had to give birth naked. You can wear the hospital gown and you're not really naked under that either since you can keep your bra on. Only your panties have to go.

My sister and I gave birth in two different hospitals and both wore gowns through labor and delivery, There's no reason you shouldn't be able to wear something during delivery as long as you expect your bottom to be out in the open (and that's just during pushing)

No you don't have to be naked. You can be if you want to. But the hospital won't let you wear your own clothes, if something goes wrong and you need surgery they don't want to be cutting clothes off your body. So you have to wear the hospital gown that opens in the back.
