I always see Conservatives attacking Liberals and vice versa. Why can't people on other sides of the political fence ever agree to disagree or at the very least have intelligent and diplomatic debates on opposing issues! It's very seldom that I hear either side making a good point without attacking the other sides credibility, sanity, or motives. Give me a break people! Grow up!

FYI Dr. Spanky...I'm not a "lousy Moderate". I'm Liberal, but have the grace and intelligence to respect and hear someone else's opinion without resorting to name calling. Try it, you may learn something.

Because people have very strong opinions on what is right. A subject like abortion has very real extreme opposite sides and you can't discuss that without emotions coming into play. What starts with the bigger platforms trickles down into every minute thing. There are plenty of people on opposite sides of political fences who are good friends and even married like Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger (I'm not going to look that up to see if I spelled it right) so obviously it can be done, but we live in a mostly "My way or the highway" society so anyone who doesn't agree with us is not our friend or we stay in a "don't ask, don't tell" state with them

This is a very naive idea...how can we "agree to disagree" when I believe abortion is murder and theother person doesn't even believe there's a person involved? What should we do? Split it "down the middle" and let every other woman that wants an abortion have one?

How can we "agree to disagree" when I want illegals removed from this country and kept out, and the other person wants to give illegals amnesty? Kick half of them out?

How can we "agree to disagree" when I want to finish the job in Iraq and the other person wants to cut and run? Bring half the troops home?

This isn't philosophy, it's real issues touching real people and "agreeing to disagree" isn't an answer.

I think often it is the way the post is phrased that dictates the type of response it's going to get. If they do something completely absurd like compare someone in a particular American political party to Hitler, Stalin etc, they can expect a lot of harsh responses. It is true, regardless of how carefully phrased a question is, there will be somebody who has to rant, or get into name calling. I think we just get tired of answering the same questions over and over.

darling it's called immaturity!! people would rather let there emotions get the best of them. the funny thing is that both sides are usually closed-minded....I mean we all are conservative about some things and liberal about somethings. like a "conservative" may be "liberal" about the death penalty, but a "liberal" could be conservative about abortion. People never look at it this way though. we all try to sit there and yell and scream and sound like 2 year olds instead of sitting there and trying to listen and see if you can get a better idea of not just what someone believe, but why they believe it.

Well, I have agreed with a few others from the other side of the aisle to disagree and added them as contacts. Some because of their humor and others because of their rational explanation to their views. :)

Its great practice for when we have to debate people in our lives....the trick is to NOT take any of this seriously...give your views, but don't let the personal attacks ruin your day...

I definitely agree with you, but unfortunately, the base tend to get base. we've gotten to the point in our society now where if one side loses, it's count the votes, if the policies of a president are not liked, he's a moron, be careful what you say about a group of people or you'll get fired (shoot and kill a particular group of people, nothing is said) but anyway it's really sad, but we have to deal with it and take heed to your refreshing comments.

I disagree! You lousy moderates always want everyone to get along - you just want it your way.

I was being facetious - my point is if you don't like debate you should go to the gardening section.
