topic to make a new website on, something that will actually get people to the site and want to come back and a site that peaple will bookmark. what can i put on a website that will make it succefull and (maybe) earn a bit of cash??

porn always works.
how do you earn a living? have any trades or skills? i would start there, maybe start a blog or comment board

First guy is right, porn is a very profitable business (but also a fighting place).
Games is the second favorite. Offer some free grames and some payable. If you have the skills (and the server!), offer on-line multi-player (it is like a chat-room, just more complex).
A weekly newletter or paper is a good one too, if you have GOOD ARTICLES. I ran a monthly paper (the Gazette) for years, and I have a lot of returning visitors (check www.skytargets.com, the Gazette, or the DOdge city game).
Finally, any site which put people together is also a good caller (i.e. mating agency!)...
Essentially, as a rule of thumb: give the surfer something INTERESTING, some content that CHANGES all the time...
Submit your site regularly and advertise it in the "real" papers.

I'll give you a project that I don't have time for (too much paid work - thank goodness!)
Make a website about making websites. There's tons of people out there that are struggling with simply putting a website together and getting hosting - at the moment we are averaging 2per week at £145 per site including a years hosting. And that is on a website that has virtually no traffic and we are not promoting....
Tons of people want to build websites but don't know where to start - so give them the info/templates etc
If you go ahead and use the idea a backlink is always welcome!

Try making a membership site. If you keep offering something different but on the same topic or a discussion forum, then the people will return. Of course it is not low maintenance but weekly updates should do and with a membership site you will have the all important mailing list and a subject they are interested in for your special offers.
