All you can do for him is just going to let him watch people on the Pirates ride from the exit and he'll get a big break to see how they feel on the ride. ( for instance, it was scary, it was fun, it was kind of eye-popping, so on ). If they don't seem like way too scared I believe he's quite okay.
And more thing I've got to say is that you should not tell him like the Pirate ride has got a couple of drops since he would start to get a big fear. People like him would guess how they would be like in those scary points and they'd feel like going to be anxious a lot while even talking about it. That's why they won't ride on a ride with some drops. If they don't know the Pirate ride gets some drops, they will ride it on.

Wow, i was scared of that ride at 6 of the water canon thing going off, but not at 10. But anyway, maybe you should tell him what it is about. That it is acually kind of funny and cool. Tell him in detail what it is about. If you dont know this is it
You start out in boats and it seems scary. Once you go thru the tunnel, it is all fun. They sing a pirates life for me the whole entire time if it is the one in CA. you have obviously fake pirates and town people chasing each other. You have water shooting out of the water and could possibly get a DRIP on you, not splashed, just a drip or two. Take him on haunted mansion or Indiana Jones. if he thinks that is not scary, tell him that this is 5 times more scary as pirates, so if you werent scared of this, you wont be scared of pirates.
If he was scared of those rides, tell him that pirates is nothing like that and is fun and not scary at all. Also when i went when i was six, i had a uncle who mislead me into thinking real bombs were going off and people ahead of us were screaming so loud.

Just tell him that all you feel is the wind, the feeling that tells you you are moving, and all you see is the track in front of you. Say those exact words. Don't let him see anything of the ride, try and take him after he's well rested and ready for thrills. Have him stick his head out the window (not suggested) to get him used to the feeling of it. Drive the car up and down hilly streets to get him used to the up and down feeling. Get some encouragement from people around you or the ride operator if you are waiting in line and he refuses to go on it. This should help.

Tell him what's in the ride (skeletons, a talking skull, pirates, and a pair of drops). Explain that the skull is giving a warning about the pirates, the pirates are too busy looting to hurt you, and the skeleton is trying to steer his crashed ship (so he can't chase you).
Or you could say they're animated figures but that kills the magic.
In Fantasyland the Operators keep flashlights on the consoles to give to scared children, you can ask them if they have one (because we all know light makes bad things disappear).
Good luck.

When I was younger, the loud noises of the cannons scared me. There was really nothing I could do about it but stick it out because I loved everything else about the ride.
It would not work to tell your son to stick it out. Best thing to do is ask him what scares him about the ride and talk about it with him. Explain that the things in it are not real or whatever his fears may be.
If he is truely afraid of it and can't be talked out to calm him, avoid it, don't make him ride it. One day he will not be afraid of it and love it.
Is it really that terrible that he is afraid of it?

I'm really big on not making kids ride stuff they don't like. It sounds like he's tried it and doesn't like it, so don't ridicule him for not liking it.
I know the pirate ride is fairly gentle, but just concentrate on building a good rapport with your son because that will affect your relationship with him for the long haul. Another suggestion: let him tell you what he'd like to do for fun.

certain people are afraid of certain things, but they will eventually get over it. Its ok for your son to be afraid of any ride at that certain age. This is completely normal. Just tell your son that there is nothing to be afraid of in the ride. And that it cannot hurt him. He can go on it when he is ready to. Maybe that will be next week, or month.

Take him to the end of ride and have him watch the people who are exiting the ride. When he sees how happy they are he won't mind getting on. If he still isn't convinved, ask the people exiting if they enjoyed the ride. If he still isn't convinced, you ride first while he waits for you with a guardian at the exit. If he still won't ride, head straight for Fantasyland because it ain't gonna happen!
