Why don't banks have more security measures in place?

Question

Banks have been being robbed for hundreds of years. Why don't they wake up to the level of the threat and tighten up their security tactics? It's very suspicious to me. Is it a little suspicious to you too?

I'm a retired private investigator. I'm suspicious of everything and everybody. I'd rather be suspicious of something that's really innocent, than ignore something that is a potential threat.

I was living in Brazil, and most of the banks I went in had a guard (or two) in a bullet-proof 'cage' with slots to shoot their automatic weapons - - should the need arise. The also had bars and/or bulletproof glass in front of the tellers. Not saying that's the answer, just an observation.

In the USA, I suppose the appearance of customer service and customer accessibility is more important. Also, the 'high-tech' approach may prevent more loss of life or casualties than having armed guards in a shoot-out with bank robbers.

Mainly because the odds of any particular bank being robbed is fairly small, despite bank robbery being a fairly often occurrance. It's the "it happens, but not HERE" mentality.
