I prefer making my own, because it's cheaper, I can make a big batch of it (safely freezing most of it) and the ultimate payoff is it's healthier, not to mention a lot better tasting than most of the canned sauces. I mix water, tomato paste (sometimes puree), lots of spices, fresh onions and garlic and veggies---and no salt added.

The best spaghetti sauce is Barilla Garlic and Olive Oil. It is so close to homemade. I’ve enjoyed the entire Barilla line- the spicy marinara is my next favorite. Newman’s Own with cabernet is another good one. Also, Classico fire roasted is good. Those are a huge step up from Hunts, Ragu and Prego. I bought the $10 Rao spaghetti sauce because it was on sale for $6.99 and I was disappointed- definitely not worth the price! Walmart has Barilla and Newman’s Own for less than $1.50. For lasagna and pasta casseroles, I just use jarred sauce with no doctoring up. For spaghetti, I start with olive oil and brown onions (sometimes mushrooms) until soft, add garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant, then add sauce. Add ½ teaspoon dried basil, ½ teaspoon oregano, and crushed red pepper flakes, and simmer for 15mins.
