I've lived in America for 15 years now, and have found very few Americans who will even try it. I've been trying to persuade Darth Cheney to try it, but he seems reluctant....

It's a spread made from yeast extract that you put on bread, usually with butter, and sometimes cheese.

I don't believe they hate Vegemite, they just know little about it. It's like the religious saying that atheists "hate" God - they simply don't understand atheism. Nor do they want to. Hateful little buggers.

Sooo... it's like that. Jack, I hate vegetables. I told Darth here that I had a vegetable once in the '90s but spit it out as soon as I realized what it was. I truly am a junk food junkie. Thing is, I NEED some vegetables. I need to up my IQ and most definitely my testosterone (this estrogen kills me at certain times of the month). I think the term (Latin, Greek?) "Vege-" reminds many people of their ickiest childhood meal. And "mite"? Well, mite is a bug. Vegetable bug. Big, fat, brussel sprout lookin' veggie bug. Blech. Time for a name change.

Thing is, I like spreads. And I would try Vegemite. I too am planning to order some. Does it really work as well as you say it does? I get the nutritional value of a peanut M&M each day and I could use the extra energy and the hair on my chest.

Vegemite is a little bit odd even to a Marmite loving Brit, the veggy content takes the edge off the yeast "kick".

My dad bought some a while ago, I had quite a large amount, because I wanted to say that I truly did try it. It was worse than the first time I tried Brussel sprouts. Uhhhhhggggggg!!!! Sorry Jacky to disparage your favorite "manly" meal but Vegemite tastes like licking the bottom of my shoe, actually I'd rather lick the bottom of my shoe.

I'm not American, and never tried Vegemite, only Marmite (they say this is the real thing, but I'm not going to argue with my lovely Aussie friends...:) ), when I lived in London, many years ago. Honestly, I found it too strong, not a pleasant taste.

Edit: I only never tried it, because I never had the opportunity, we don't have this here. I would, like I tried Marmite, and try everything.

I like Vegemite (and Marmite) but I'm not an American.
Sorry. I guess I don't count ... ;)

Vegemite has an aquired taste.
In my humble opinion, I think that Americans like "soft" tasting food : popcorn, ice cream, french fries, peanut butter, donuts, ...

(((P.S. I love Jack B. He's a sweety pie. Kisses)))

I passed on an opportunity to try it before they hired you as the Promoter of Vegemite. I will try it now as soon as I can. It's all in the packaging! Unlike some folks around here, I would never say I hate something that I am not familiar with. The smell was not very inviting to me, as I recall, but we have all had to get past that in one way or another. My granddaughter shyly told me she missed the smell of the barn when we were away. Duh! I love the smell of the barn.

Unfortunately, Jack, Americans have been wondering why Austrailians LIKE Vegemite so much for more than 15 years, so we asked you first... now pony up with the answer. (Yes I have tried Vegemite and it tastes like badly congealed V8 juice, sorry)

Maybe I wouldn't have hated it as much as I do, if I didn't have some Aussie actually try to force feed it to me against my will. Having any food shoved in your face like that is not going to leave a fond impressive. That and it don't smell good, sorry but it smells and tastes like catshit. (And yes, I am the one who told Darth Cheney.)
