Originally, our support started with the formation of Israel as a state in 1948. Part of it was guilt over the holocaust, but now, they are the only democracy in the Mideast and we need them as an ally. The big problem has been, in supporting them, financially and in other ways, the Palestinians paid the big price in losing their homes and businesses, and becoming refugees that other countries don't want. Arabs hate Israel and say it is because of their aggressive treatment of Palestinians, but I think it goes back much farther into history.

It's because they're our only true ally in the middle east. Also, because of the many jews in this country. Finally, it's because of the U.S. role in setting up Israel as a country after WWII.

we support a lot of countries. what power? they are a minority and as far as money, how much could they pesess that it has a strong affect. i would say their power is in the lobby sector and the re-election process. meaning they might fund someone to contest someone who opposses their position. besides, it is the right thing to do. non of the problems over there are political, they are strickly religious.
