When you say, "I love you" - what does that mean to you?

There is a huge difference between loving someone and being "in love."

Loving someone can extend into all sorts of directions:
It's the warm fuzzy feeling of knowing you are with a friend--simply a friend..and all that it means to be a friend--honesty, trust, comfort in the good, the bad and the ugly---and that friend can be anyone--older, younger, same sex, different sex---for to love is to be willing to share a part of one's heart...BUT THAT IS NOT TO BE IN LOVE

Loving is to find the commonality, and to cherish the difference, to be able to share the splendor of the miracles of life, to be willing to listen, and share, to speak, to hold, to plan the next moment, the next day, and reflect on all the past moments of goodness, of the toughness of lessons that you two overcame--BUT THAT IS NOT TO BE "IN LOVE"

I can love a puppy, a friend, a family member, a beautiful day, GD, so many things. I can love being free and alive. BUT THAT IS NOT TO BE "IN LOVE"

I can say "I love you" to each and everyone-my enemies, as well as my friend--for no other reason than they share this planet with me--BUT THAT IS NOT TO BE "IN
LOVE"

So, if you are asking me what it means when I say to my wife "I love you" and I mean "I AM IN LOVE WITH YOU," that is a special place in my heart, in my life, in my mind that means she is with me even when we are apart for hours, for days for longer...

Above all, it means I am willing to place her needs ahead of my own, but I am also aware that I, too, have needs, and I can trust that in my life someone feels there are times that my needs go ahead of hers...for if all I care about is my needs than I am being selfish and if I only want to please her, than I am being codependent and negligent of myself...And while I can say to amillion people "I love you" and mean it a million ways, I can say "I am in love with you" to only 1 person and it will not matter how I mean it...she will know as I will know that we feel what we feel as two different people, and we know when two should be "one" and when it is healthy to each be our own person.

When you love some one the memory of them isn't even close to as good as the real thing. The real thing surpasses your wildest imagination. You might miss them when you're apart but when you're together they're more wonderful than you remembered.

To me, when I say "I love you" to my man it means:
I want to breathe his air.
I want to see his smile.
I want to dry his tears.
I am happy being in his presence.
I am peaceful knowing he's happy.
I want to hold him.
I want to share my world with him.
I feel calm when I think of him.
I see his defects, and I accept them.
I respect his opinions.
My heart hurts when I'm not with him.
And it almost bursts when I am.

And I could go on and on...because I love him.
