ok, I have a Dell Optiplex GX-260, with a CD-RW/DVD drive, which I have played DVD's on in the past, with no problem. I have Cyberlink PowerDVD 6. when I put a DVD in the drive, it won't recognise it as a DVD. and it says in PowerDVD that there is no DVD in Drive E. (thats my DVD drive) So what's wrong with it?

Thanks in advance!

Given the drive says "No Disc" it is NOT a codec issue, sounds more like the drive is just old and has unfortunately died. These days cheaper to replace a drive than try to get a repair, sticka DVDRW in there if you can, almost no prce difference now

Does it recognize CD's? If so, this is most likely a codec issue. If it does not, there is a problem with your drive.

I recommend using VLC media player (it can play anything). Best part is it's free and completely free of spyware. It is also the most popular player out there.

VLC media player is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, ...) as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols.

If you also want free codecs, the K-Lite Codec Pack should be able to play 99% of all the movies that you download from the internet.

I had some problem like this in class, we were trying to figure out why its called CD drive, when it really was a DVD rom!!
oh boy, i dont know where to start, ummmmmmm
having cyberlink power dvd 6 is good, you got your software!!
(dvd player for the computer) which in this case is Power DVD!
u got your dvd rom right?? u do have it, "CD-RW/DVD"
so it should work, go to my computer, make sure it reads
dvd rom! on your dvd drive. or what ever its on

Stu the kilted Scot is right on. DVD player is probably gone bad. Very simple to replace, just open the side of the case, pull it out, making a note exactly where it came from, get a new one from Walmart or Bestbuy, and plug it. Bet you it works fine. Good luck.

Try with another DVD disk or even try playing a CD, to find out if your CD-DVD is working. You might have to resolve some hardware issues with your vendor.

That's weird, does every DVD do that? Your DVD decryption driver might have become corrupted.

You can get VLC: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

It is a media player that plays DVDs and does not need any DVD decryption driver to make it work.

try uninstalling, and reinstalling the driver, if you are not experienced with computers, have someone who is do it for you. did you try restarting your computer? well, if I had the computer in front of me I could probably fix it lol.. but try that, it may or may not work
