Are you sick and tired of being called a "lesbian" just because you enjoy doing something that is a traditionally male-dominated activity? I weld, I lift weights, I've worked (in the past) for a construction company, I would rather drive a motorcycle than ride on the back of one....when I was a little girl I didn't play with dolls very much. I liked to climb trees, catch frogs, play sports. I had as many friends (and still do) who are men as I do women. I believe in gender equality. Yet I am feminine in appearance, at times wear dresses, love lingerie....I'm not a lesbian...I'm not asexual. Why do some people feel they must make assumptions about my sexuality (and that of others) solely based upon the non-sexual activities that they enjoy doing? I, for one, am tired of being stereotyped. How about you?

EDIT: Jackal: yes I post answers there, few, if you look. Most of my answers are posted in this forum, psychology, and religion and spirituality. I'm drawn to answering questions that relate to my current field of study: psychology and addictions counseling. I work with the public on a variety of issues. This makes me a lesbian? LOL! And lifting weights makes me a lesbian? I think you're just afraid I might beat you at arm-wrestling...you'd never get over it or live it down, would you? Ha!

I'm almost the same way you are and I've been called a lesbian. I play video games, and don't dress as girlish as average girls. I also rather ride a motorcycle than be in the back. I love to climb anything and do pretty much boyish things, now and as a child. But, I don't like to play sports, I'm bad at it. But I do know when I have to dress as a girl, dresses and fixing myself up for special occasions, even though I hate wearing dresses, but I like fixing myself up. I like lingerie, too.
You just do what you enjoy. Their is nothing wrong with that. I'm sure there are a lot more girls that are experiencing this too and hate it. I'm getting sick of this stereotyped. But it's their problem, not yours. Let them be idiots.

I know of two such girls, one of them being a relative. They were going through the same situation that you have talked, they didn't care. Personally I like such girls who are indulged in activities you mentioned that are thought to be masculine in nature, though my attraction is not sexual in nature. I am rather fascinated by the fact that despite being involved in such activities they manage to look and feel feminine . I liked my batchmates (girls) who smoked, spoke in deep throaty voice deliberately, had athletic interest + body, whistled loudly + catcalled in college functions and used 4 lettered words without inhibitions. I think it is just personal preference and noone else has any right to criticize or comment adversely on that.

Consider the source...if someone stereotypes you based upon your activities, I would suggest they are small minded and not people with whom you want to socialize. We cannot control the thinking and actions of others...so just keep living your life the way in which you choose and stop bothering what others think or perceive...

No idea, sound like my type of girl. Probably a little rough in bed, too. Perfect.
It could be that those who are accusing you of such things are quite insecure. Perhaps they feel that their manliness is being challenged. If it's women calling you this, they're probably just jealous that you have more fun with the guys.

Actually it is rather amusing that is the worst insult they can sling at us. Do they honestly believe that bothers any of us. The way I look at it, if these males that post these derogatory comments are all I had to choose from I would certainly have no qualms of rethinking my sexuality.

I was called a lesbian because I'm not interested in dating (even though I specified that I wasn't interested in dating either sex) and because I'm a feminist. It would be funny were it not so sad.

I think having muscles can be sexy, and you should be proud of it. Women should try and be unique, and not try and all look exactly the same. Also, be proud of being a woman, and show off your feminine as much as you can. That is really sexy.

Only the ******* here call me a lesbian, and what they think isn't important. Neither are the ones who call you names. You keep on doing what you've been doing, and to hell with what anybody else thinks.

Some people just have nothing better to do than make assumptions about other people. Enjoy what you want, where you want, and with who you want.
