This is a medical question and debate which some of my coworkers and I are debating. We recently found out that one of my friends was trying to have a baby for a few years and was unsuccesful. She recently found out that she was not ovulating. Which kind of confused us. the question is it possible to have a Monthly period eventhought you are not ovulating? And if you are not ovulating then why have a period. If the point of having a period is too relase the unfertilize egg right? If any one else has better information regarding this topic can you please let me know.

Your uterus gets prepared to carry a baby every month by building up the lining and then shedding it. This will happen whether an egg is released or not in most cases. So yes she can still have a regular period. That's part of why it's hard to diagnose problems conceiving.

I am trying to concieve and every month I get my period like clock work and it is completely regular, however I DO NOT ovulate. It is the most frustrating thing ever. There is a drug she can be put on called Clomid that can help with that.

That will be my next step but in the mean time if she or you or anyone know of any natural ways to deal with this please contact me directly
I would appreciate all the help I can get

This may no be much help, but I do know from personal experience that a sign of no ovulation is irregular periods. I was having a bleed inbetween my periods and my doc said that usually means no ovulation. Most BC keeps you from ovulating and you still have a period.

well when one is on birth control pills they are not ovulating but still have a period - but I'm not sure why/what happens when ovulation does not occur 'naturally' yet still have a period. Good question!

Yes it is completely possible. The hormones that cause the release of the egg, and the ones that cause the uterus to shed its lining are completely different hormones. You can have one hormone present and not the other.
