to do mathmatics as it seems their expense claims are nearly always wrong, but they probably get away with it, and yet members of the public overlook a small bill and big brother is threatening, court, prison and usually within a couple of days past the bill due date, do you think this is a case of one rule for them again and another for the public?

Yes, you are absolutely correct, this is another instance of "one rule for them, another for us", as in cops speeding, making U-turns on busy streets, stopping in heavy traffic, etc.
Despite the fact that the Media claims the U.S. is a democracy, neither the U.S. nor any other modern country has ever been a Democracy (you know, people rule). The U.S. was set up as a Representative Government (Republican Government). Over the years, our Representatives have cached more and more of our monies and denied more and more of our liberties, mainly through the Liberal Supreme Court. (abotions, "gay" rights, Chicano rights, black rights, women's rights, etc. (IAW the Constitution, if it does not apply to EVERYONE it is not a right, but a "privilege".) The priveleged few have whatever they want, don't have to obey the laws. Therefore, in actuality, the U.S. not only is NOT a Democracy, not a Representative Government, it is an Aristocracy, just the same as Medieval Europe.
As to "expense claims", the Government uses Governmental accounting, which varies significantly from that used by CPA's to check the books of business. After all, the Government's purpose is NOT to earn a profit. (Governmental accounting is also used by all of the non-profits or not-for-profits!)

Do you have personal knowledge of expense claims filed by a government employee? Are the rules different for them than they are for us...sure, always have been. Elected officials have convinced a majority of the voters that they have what it takes to run this country - the LAST superpower. It is a big responsibility and I'm sure that they take it very seriously. But being in that position of responsibility as well as noteriety also makes them targets for psychos and they are entitled to certain 'perks' that the rest of us are not. Jealous? Run for office and become a part of the solution instead of sitting around whining and doing nothing.

And while we are on the subject of 'expenses' that our elected officials have...lets talk about the CEO's of major coroprations-do you believe that they are entitled to the "perks" that they recieve and the way they too seem to think that they are above the law.....again, one rule for them and another set of rules for the hard working little people who keep him satisifed???

You think that's bad the EU MP's don't even try to correctly apply for expenses and they get away with it as Brussels, which has accounts to be signed off by their official accountants, has yet to have any accounts cleared as correct. If the EU was a public company it would have been in court for financial irregularities years ago, but as they make all the rules and adhere to none they get away with it.

Is it possible for people to ask a question about the government without atleast one poster either saying that Bush is the stupidest person on the planet, or that he is running an incredibly efficient corrupt regime that can plan things like 9/11 (i.e. that he is the smartest person on the planet)?

Besides the fact that these two points of view are contradictory and yet held by the same group of people, they are both ridiculous and a waste of our time. Do you not realize that a snippy one-liner isn't going to convince anyone of anything?

Many in congress do not thoroughly read most of the bills they pass. The bills are written by special interest groups that know it is easier to understate the costs and get the contract then go to ask for more money to finish the project then to try to get something passed with a huge price tag.

Yes this is a case of one rule for them again and another for the public.
It is every where USA, USSR, UK even India (not a signatory to many treaties) and other countries can acquire and develop nuclear bomb but Korea, Pakistan and Iran, no never and not at any cost. If necessary destroy their facilities even invading these countries. What a double standard

Government immunity and protection can give any politician a false sense of security! Go back into history and look at the number of pardons that have been issued.

What most Americans want are "babysitters in office" instead of seriously looking into individuals who are qualified to perform their jobs!

The problems begin with US!

Oh don't kid yourself, They know exacalty what they are doing. What they do is act and talk dumb in a smart way to get away with all their wrongs. When found out their response is, I did not know about it, It was an oversight, I'll have it corrected, huh,? when?, Someone else handles my affairs, I'll take to her/him about it, I was out of town, and last but not least, their famous last words, no comment at this time.
