It means caution - the light is about to change to red.
When electric lights were first developed - there was no yellow light. It went from red to green and causing people to slam on their brakes.
caused a lot of accidents too. So they put in the yellow as a caution.
of course- some people take it to mean - run like hell to be the red.

Slow the "F" down! Your light will be red within 5 seconds, so stop putting other people at risk by blowing through the red light. You should have left 5-minutes earlier!

"On a traffic light yellow means yield, and green means go. On a banana, it's just the opposite, yellow means go ahead, green means hold on, and red means, where'd you get that banana?"

Yellow means slow down, take caution, or slow down cause it's about to turn red.

being that yellow is closer to green in the color spectrum, i assume it's more closely related to "go" than "stop"...

most sci-fi programs show a flash of blue when something hits warp speed, thus i deduce that the yellow light would indicate to go slightly slower than when the light is green.
