Being patriotic to one's country means becoming educated enough to realize that politicians, Democratic, Republican, and other, are extremely influenced by a variety of entities that do not really serve the public good. As such, our education should encourage us to recognize, criticize and disagree with political agendas of every type.

Being patriotic means having compassion for the people within the country, even in spite of disagreement. Our efforts should be to share views and contribute to the education of others, not only about issues, but about who we are as individuals. Tolerance is a real thing, and both liberals and conservatives need to work on it.

Yes to #1, no to #2 and #3 and yes to #4. The first right as an American is the freedom of speech. If you do not speak up against what you feel to be an un-just Government, then you are not loyal/ patriotic. It is the very basis of America, that her citizens are free to speak up and disagree with a corrupt white house! Those Americans that just blindly fallow or never ask questions, those are the ones that are not patriotic. Those who want to change the constitution to exclude certain citizens are not patriotic or loyal Americans! America is about freedom and equality!

Patriotism in the US is intertwined with a willingness to abide by the constitution.

Patriotism never requires blind commitment to any political party. I'd suggest lining yourself up with the party that most closely abides by the constitution.

Patriotism does not require supporting policies that are contrary to the constitution.

A patriot could/should be able to disagree or be critical of politicians or the government, particularly if that government is moving away from the constitution.

Upholding the Constitution absolutely. Disagreeing with the administration when they are taking the country down the wrong path. Cheering them on when we are prosperous. (hasn't happened in awhile.) Voting your beliefs not the party. Holding the people that are in office supposedly representing the people to a standard. I consider myself patriotic. But was tried to be convinced I wasn't when I spoke out against the invasion/occupation of Iraq from the beginning. That was bull.

It means being informed enough to protect your country from your government.

It means that the intent of the law is far more important than the letter, and realizing that if you don't know your rights, you don't have any left.

It means supporting policies that are in the best interests of the nation and its citizens, no matter who else supports or opposes them.

Believing in and acting in a way that is in the best interest of our country. Unfortunately I can not support our current administration because I do not believe they are even close to acting in the best interest of our country.

It means whatever you want it to mean. Each person has their own feelings and definitions of patriotism. Their beliefs are their beliefs and nobody is wrong when it comes to the own definition of patriotism.
