It might but it is not guaranteed that it will. You may have to wait for it to be effective on your period till you are fully on the pill for one month.

Most birth control will not take away any symptoms, though having a monthly period is not manditory when you're on the pill. The symptoms are hard to treat but you can do a few things which include: try to avoid salty foods, take pain killers such as Midol, Motrin, or Pamphrin, and don't just sit there, no matter how bad you are cramping. Walking around helps relieve the symptoms after a while. I also eat bananas and chocolate and find that it helps me personally, but I haven't found anyone else who can say the same.

It will but depending on what pill you are on you may not want to do that. Unless you are on a pill that is made to where you take it and don't have a period then I wouldn't continue to take them on the week of your period. It can really mess with your hormones. Ask your doctor if the pill you are on is safe to do that or not. None of us want to deal with period but be safe about it. The way birth control works is it releases hormones in your body to trick it into thinking it's pregnant. Therefore you will not ovulate or have a period if you take it continuously. This is also why some girl gain weight on the pill. When you stop the pill the hormones go away and you start your period again.

if just starting the pill for the first time you take it the first Sun after your period-this gets your body in syn for next time. If already on the pill, taking it earlier than you would normally restart it won't do anything-you already have your period so it'll finish it's course
