Is that why AIPAC and Fox News attacked him so fiercely?

Carter was only correct about one thing and that was zero sum budgeting. Other than that he's only good as an example of what to make sure you don't do as a leader.

I know Carter doesn't mean it this way though his statement is correct if you look at religion in the Palestinian areas as well as the Albanian areas Clinton destroyed. The Christians in these areas are extreamly oppressed and over 80% of Christian churches in Albania have been destroyed since Clinton sent us into Bosnia. In the Palestinian areas almost everything Christian has been destroyed and in both of the areas most Christians have fled or been killed due to their religious beliefs. Good job Democrats. Equality for all, what a joke. You preach and support everyone group that is against freedom and democracy what do you expect to happen. They have to know this is the end result.

Re: The Middle East. The idiot Carter took the PLO and legitimized them as a political organization instead of the terrorist group they have always been. If you go back into history and take a look at what is supposedly Palestinian land, most of it is in Jordan. Why doesn't anyone call Jordan the occupied territories? Most of Israel was actually purchased. The Israeli's paid far more for the land than anyone else would have in the world. It's their land and we shouldn't have paid the Israelis, Egyptians or Palestinians to get alone. We should have left it the way it was. The Israeli's kicked the **** out of all the neighbors during the 6 day war and they should have told the US to go away and kept the land they conquored due to them being attacked.

I was always anti-Israel until Barrat (I think it was Ehoud Barrat, forgive me on the spelling) who gave the PLO basically everything they asked for and Arrafat said no. It proved to me that the leaders of the Palestinian areas do not want the problem solved they only want to eliminate Israel from the face of the earth.

I hope and strongly recommend you read up on the history of this region and look at the politics that have occurred and make your own decisions. If you honestly research the middle east you will certainly leave with a view that strongly disagrees with Carter.

Good plan. It always helps an argument bashing Israel to reference Neo-Nazi websites.

As for Carter, he's just a bit senile in his old age. Plenty of stuff in his book were proven wrong, which was why Carter has refused to debate anybody who has challenged him (compare that to Christopher Hitchens who has been traveling around the Bible Belt to debate preachers on his atheist book).

Unfortunately for the conspiracy theorists, there is free speech in Israel. It is a western, secular democracy. People say all sorts of things bashing Israel, and nobody gets arrested. Leaders of the Israeli media have even admitted tilting their coverage of the 2006 conflict with Hezbollah against the government because they opposed the war on political grounds (and because some had kids who were fighting). Just like most of the US media has done with the Iraq War in recent years.

In response to the poster after me:

Answer me this: How many posts have you made here where you criticized a single muslim country for arresting people without reason?

In fact, this happens all the time in muslim countries. Israel has an independent judiciary that reviews any case where a defendent feels they have been aggrieved. If there isn't evidence that a person was arrested for terrorist activities then they are released (yes, this happens all the time). Meanwhile, in Palestine, people are executed by the police for shaving their beards. How many posts have you made where you criticize THAT?

The simple fact is that muslims are treated far better in Israel than in any other country in the middle east. It's not even close. If you feel bad for aggrieved muslims, complain about Palestine and Lebanon and Iran. Not Israel.

Carter is a pandering fool. That's all there is to it. I'm sure that having actually LIVED during many of the infamous racist regimes of the south back in the 20's, 30's, 40's,50's,60's, and 70's - certainly one would think that Mr. Carter would know better than to throw around the "A" word when referring to the Israeli/Palestinian issue. I think he's WAY off the mark.
That situation is nowhere NEAR as cut and dry as simply classifying it as apartheid, and Mr. Carter knows it.

The fact is that Americans do not really know how Israelis treat Palestinians. They are not interested of really just looking at the reported stats and laws of Israel. Yes, Israel is a democracy but they use a completely different judicial process for Palestinians. They have also frequently displaced and Palestinians against their will. They can arrest a Palestinian, that lives in Israel, without a charge and hold him indefinitely.

Apartheid? I don't know... but it is close to apartheid in my eyes.

Israel has a right to protect their nation and I actually sympathize with them but I can not accept civil liberties extended to one set of people and not to the other.

No Carter has a very poor understanding of what is going on there.

People like Carter wants simple answers and there are not for what is going on in Israel.

Both sides are fighting for the same land.

Palestinies don't help matters when Israel does give up land than they step up sucide bombings.

Israel clamps down and are consider the bad guys.

Jimmy Carter is a bitter, lying old man. He has ducked repeated requests that he defend the content of that book and several comments made since in a public debate.

Edit: All of this anti-Israel rhetoric is sickening. Just to clarify the position(s) of the Israel bashers... al-Qaeda is evil, but Hamas and al-Aqsa Brigades and PFLP, etc. are freedom fighters?! This kind of double standard raises serious suspicions as to your motivations, people. Is Islamic terror only wrong and evil when it is perpetrated against gentiles?

Carter has asked how the Israelis can shoot Palestinian woman and children even though they are carrying bombs...

A friend explained it to me...you just don't have to lead them as much.
