i'm sure it's a very, very small percentage, but just wondered. does anyone know or can guess better than i can?

well i mean like, not only people like britney spears, just people who have generally starred in a movie or tv show or are known to the public in some form or other

I have no clue, but las vegas, new york, brazil, miami, florida, Italy, and Toronto are pretty famous places. That would be kind could you should conduct your own study on the amount of famous people there are amoung normal people in the world or in certain places. The ones with the most celebs would get even more advertisment or even places that people probably didn't even notice. You could become famous if you do this yourself .. maybe.
Oh and famous places amoung all the places in the world i would say like 5% of under is famous. A lot of places in the world go unnoticed sadely.

I'm sure its less than 1%, its not possible that there is more than one famous person every 100 people, thats like 60,000,000 famous people in the world, its also depends on what kind of famous are you talking about, someone can be famous worldwide, someone can be famous within the country their in, some one can be famous only amoung people with a certain interest,

probably like 1/50th of a percent. There are more than 6 billion people in this world and I doubt that there are millions of famous people. Even 1% or 60 million would be way too much. As a matter of fact I don't even think famous people reach 1 million!

some person is famous if that person is known by say X people. ( x on emillion, thousend ... )
let n be the number of famous persons then
n times X is about the number of habitants on this earth.
so n = number of habitants on earth / X
the percentage of famous people is then about
n / number of habitants on earth = 1/X * 100%
for X = 100000, the number of famous persons is thus one promille of the entire population.
