I need help with this kind of math problem.

Jack can clean the bathroom in 5 hours while Jill can clean the bathroom in 3 hours. How many minutes will it take them to clean if the bahtroom if they work together?

Take x be the hrs Jack takes to clean the bathroom and Y be the hrs taken by Jill to clean the bathroom.
So average time is that they take to clean the bathroom is (5+3)/2=4
1 hr is 60 minutes so 4 hrs is 240 minutes.

I am not sure if this is right
add the two numbers, then divide by 2 for 2 people
which will be 4 hours times 60 minutes = 240 mins

1/5x + 1/3x = 1

Multiply both sides of the equation by 15

154(1/5x) + 15(1/3x) = 15(1)

3x + 5x = 15

Collect like terms

8x = 15

Divide both sides of the equation by 8

8x / 8 = 15 / 8

x = 15 / 8

x = 1 7/8 hours

That is one hour and seven eights minutes

7/8 of a hour is

7/8(60) =

420 / 8

52.5 minutes

add 52.5 minutes to 60 minutes

112.5 minutes

Jack and Jill working together can clean the bathroom in 112.5 minutes

im not totally sure but i think it would be 180 minutes. since jill is the fastest cleaner, and she can do it in 3 hours, that is the fastest they will be able to clean it. 3 hours is the same as 180 minutes. i hope this is right
