I think no matter what, it's going to have to be big enough now. I mean what are you going to do, give it back with a snotty "sorry but it's just not big enough"? That's extremely rude & ungrateful. If you really love this guy, then the size of the diamond shouldn't matter. Your friend is obviously very selfish & classless. She should be happy for you, not talking sh** about the size of your diamond. Maybe she's just jealous.

What a question! Now, when I went to get my engagement ring, I went to a local place to get a real idea of what diamonds look like. Most people don't spend that much time around different sizes of diamonds and can compare them without something in front of them.
Personally, once I got some different diamonds in my hands I decided that a ring with a 3/4 ct diamon with (REALLY IMPORTANT) the hightest clarity. Clarity, to me, made he biggest difference in my choice of diamond.
After I chose my diamond, I spent the extra money that I saved, not getting a full carrot on FOURTEEN tiny diamonds to accent my band. It looks really pretty and I love it.
Also, I have slender fingers, so the diamond really depends how it look ON your hand, go to a store and tell them you are looking for some ideas, a salesperson would be delighted to let you try on whatever you want (which is really fun anyways!)
<3 ^_^ Good Luck

A engagement ring by tradition should be worth 3 months of the proposers salary, so take it from there, but on the other hand does it really matter what size the ring is as long as you love each other, your not marrying the ring your marrying the giver. The size of the ring does not equal or show the amount of love. Congrats

Don't listen to your friend. A lot of people can't even afford that! If the diamond was given with love then that is all that matters.

its fine-why do you care what your friend thinks? As long as your happy with it nothing else matters. You should be happy he proposed! If your basing a marraige on the size of you engagement ring you won't be married for long. Cause it seems to me that you only care for your fiances wealth. Don't let him find out you asked such a stupid question cause it just makes you look shallow.

If you're basing your decisions about marriage on the size of the rock, then I'd say you're not mature enough to get married yet.

Yes. But everyone has their own opinion about dimonds. I think 1ct is standard. Not over the top and not too little.

depends on how big her hands are. i would say 1 karat is big enough. cut and clarity are also extreamly important. no matter how big the diamond is, if the clarity is low then it will look ugly.
