because deerhunters don't pay each other to watch deers mutilate each other.

Do you really need to ask? Dog fighting is starving and torturing dogs to turn them into killing machines. It is cruel b/c the only way out of fighting for a dog is death: either by another dog or a veterinarian putting them down b/c they are too mean to find homes. Deer hunting is allowed because deer populations in communities get to be too large. The way to keep the population down is by hunting. Otherwise, the interstates and highways would be riddled with cars wrecked by deer crossing the highways at dusk and at night. And the hunters who know what they are doing are not torturing the deer. Hunters who respect the right to hunt make sure the deer don't suffer. ( Besides the fact that they actually hunt for food and not just sport. ) The only way to get fresh venison where I live is to hunt. If one of my friends ends up with more meat than they can use, I benefit. The two past years, I haven't been offered any, so I know my friends and family are sticking to the hunting guidelines. You can only kill so many deer each season. That way the deer don't become extinct and the deer also don't become deadly obstacles in the road.

Where are you from? I'm from the south and deer, turkey, wild hog, duck and many more are hunted for many reasons. One is called "harvesting" which is a fancy word used to not offend people like you. What it really means is so we can EAT them! It's no different than when you buy and eat something from the grocery store except it is much better to most people. I was raised in a large southern city and never ate wild game until the last few years. It has a "wild" taste to it you either love or hate. Another is to keep the population of each species in check. The Game & Fish Commission very closely regulate what you can and can not hunt as well as when, where and how (ie shotgun, rifle or bow). And yes some hunt for sport so they can hang their 14 point buck on the wall. In their defense, most give the meat away to friends and family.
If you ever get a chance watch that show on VHI hosted by Ted Nugent! He's a little over the top but for the most part he gets the point accross!

Dog fighting, hunting, prize fighting, animal racing, dog hog fights
Of these “sports” only one Is illegal. People look at dog fighting as if it were the most despicable even in the history of man kind.. and it very well may rank among them. But is it really any different than any other forms of “entertainment” in our screwed up society?
What makes dog fighting any worse? The main response is that its illegal.. well that’s sort of the point of the discussion now isn’t it? Also I find it odd that predominantly white sports such as hunting and racing animals have been romanticized in the media and society where as dog fighting is just disgusting. People usually say well people love dogs, there mans best friend.. well what ever happened to Bambi! Bambi is adorable! Also plenty of people own fish, but that doesn’t stop them from fishing now does it? This leads me to another argument, that people hunt for food or to level out the population. The people hunting do not need to hunt to eat! Also this is seems like your trying to justify the killings where as I think they are all wrong, instead of buying that expensive riffle and take yo but to Wal-Mart but if ones legal they should all be.
Another common thing to say is that the dogs are tortured starved and beaten. 1st if dog fighting were legal then these things would be regulated. 2nd horses and dogs that race are given dangerous steroids and over worked constantly, and if they don’t live up to the expectations made when they were bred or if they break a leg they are put to sleep.. also knows as killed. In both situations the animals are bred and trained to compete since birth and if they aren’t the best they are killed. In addition none of the animals are choosing to get in the ring or on the track. This is another common statement when mma or other human prize fighting is brought up.
The bottom line is they are all disgusting. But as long as the breeding training betting and murder of animals can be used for entertainment and turn a profit dog fighting should be legal. By the way I’m not even going to squabble about the fact that it is still legal in states such as Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, Texas, Florida as well as Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, and Oklahoma to fight a dog and a Ferrell pig. They justify it by saying that the pigs are messing up crops and a danger to the children. So rather then shoot them or call animal control.. well just let our dogs kill them and let our children watch. And since the kids are scared well teach them not to be afraid by cutting of their tusk and taping the snouts closed and letting the kids chase them for fun.. legally. O and I love how most of the time people who say dog fighting is wrong say that they should feed the people placing bets and training the dogs to the animals. Well isn’t that justice! If you’d enjoy watching that.. you’d probably love a dog fight

If a dog is trained for fighting then the owner runs the risk of having it turn on him or her self and their family as well. Dogs are animals that have memory. They will attack eventually. Besides dog fight training is very harsh. The dog is deprived of food, housed in a small cage and sometimes even beaten to be made to be mean. Most of the dogs used for fighting are really very sweet dogs until you give them a master like that. Deer hunting has limits that are punishable if violated. Dogs have no such protection.

Well, one is a felony.
Personally, I don't think deer hunting is acceptable, but in this case I do see it on a different level than hanging dogs, watering them down and electricuting them, drowning them. This is an animal in his charge and he tortured it, brutally.
As to dog fighting in general, which is only a small part of why Michael Vick is going to prison (it's mostly the cruelty/torturing) I think neither is acceptable unless you are hunting to feed yourself, but as I said under the law dog fighting is a FELONY.

My grandfather used to hunt for deer. He would cook the deer meat and people would eat it for dinner (the Native Americans did the same). Did Mike Vick cook the dog meat and eat it for dinner?

Because people generally do not torture deer when hunting. The goal in killing a deer is to kill it with one shot. Besides we have pretty much removed all the natural predators in the food chain that eat deer (wolves, big cats etc...), without hunters there would be even more dead deer on the freeway, and people eat the deer they kill or donate the meat to the needy. deer is very tasty.

What the F are you talking about? You don't go out in the woods and have 2 deers fight till one gets mauled and let it die? Hunting is legal. Plus you just shoot it and it's a quicker death than letting it suffer? Vick was wrong for what he did so STOP defending his EVIL actions!

Because deer hunting serves a valuable purpose. And many hunters use the meat of the deer...just as we use the meat of cattle and pork, fish and fowl.

People hunt deer to eat it or use the body for materials.
Dog fighting is to win money/gamble.
Nothing good comes from dog fighting, deer hunting is to feed and equip people.
Same as fishing i guess, we fish to eat, or raise to cattle for meat and milk....
We don't make the cows fight to score some cheese, but they fight dogs for an extra 100 bucks or two.
