While an auto battery (make sure it's sealed) should work, it's not recommended. According to the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission:
"Never use automotive electrical parts. Use marine parts only. Use of automotive parts rather than sealed marine parts (such as alternators, starters, fuel pumps, and other electrical parts) could cause a spark that could ignite a fire."
Also consider if you're using a non-marine battery and something happens, your insurance can deny the claim.

a boat shop will charge more for the same battery you get at autozone. it is all about the brand you buy.these batteries have a life span of maybe three years. so just because you buy a battery from autozone doesn't mean it is cheap because they can be expensive too .no matter how cheap the battery it serves one purpose . to start your seadoos up. it is up too you how you maintain it. if you want a charge to stay on your battery buy a trickle charger that will keep your battery in top shape for starting and will improve the life of the battery

I've bought them at Sears, Napa Auto Parts etc. I make it a habit to replace my battery every 4 years, regardless. That beats being stuck w/a dead battery! Cheap insurance.
