"no harry potter stuff" - love your style!

By your Q&As and previous reading I would recommend the following. I love the Maximum Ride series but if you want something more vampire-ish, I'd start with Blood Ties. Also my favorite "horror" genre book of all time is in the list. Stephen King's The Stand.

1.) Everworld series by Katherine Applegate
2.) Blood Ties series by Jennifer Armintrout
3.) Maximum Ride series by James Patterson
4.) Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind
5.) The Stand by Stephen King
6.) Dark Tower series by Stephen King
7.) The Xenogenesis series by Octavia E. Butler
8.) Uglies Trilogy by Scott Westerfeld
9.) Cirque Du Freak by Darren Shan

As with wantsshy, I agree Robin McKinley is very good. You might want to try the early Andre Norton witch series too. Or as she also said Ray Feist, maybe some Dennis L. McKiernan, Frederick Pohl. Tanya Huff, Jane Lindskold, Mercedes Lackey, Margaret Weiss and Tracy Hickman, David Weber, James Doss, Fred Saberhagen's Dracula series, John Dunning, if you like thrillers in my opinion the best is Matthew Reilly and any of his books are great, James Rollins, Jack DuBrul, even Clive Cussler will work. Have fun, happy reading!

Have to tell you I am a college educated adult and am an avid reader and I love Twilight too! It was fabulous. I would recommend the following ( These two are my absolute favorite books from when I was your age and still love them today ) The Blue Sword and Hero and the Crown ( read The Blue Sword first ) by Robin Mckinnley,
Also The Bridge to Tarabithia,
Dragonsong, DragonSinger and DragonDrumbs and the rest of the Dragon books by Anne McCaffery
I know you will love these books if you loved Twilight.
Edit: Oh and Magician Apprentice and all the books that follow by Raymond E. Fiest ( I believe that is how his name is spelled ) Wow I am almost jealous because you get to discover all of these amazing books for the first time

When i was your age i read "Everworld"...its a series by K.A. Applegate. They characters are teenagers,it would fall under fantasy. Also "of two minds" and "more minds" by Carol Matas and Perry Nodleman. "I was a teenage fairy" and "Violet and Claire" by Francesca Lia Block are also great books. For mystery try anything by Mary Higgins Clark. These are all books i read in Junior HIgh and High School and still have now.

You would like - Maximum Ride by James Patterson and Cirque Du Freak by Darren Shan. And Eragon... the inheritence series
maximumride.com
darrenshan.com
alagaesia.com

the darren shan site looks kinda gross (he writes a series about vampires (cirque du freak) and deamons) but they are really good, I started the series in 5th grade and the 12th and final book just came out a feww months ago. 200-250 paged book i usually finish in 1 or 2 days.

You could go Old School with Heinlein and Azimov. I found Octavia Butler to be too dark for me.

I love apolyptic novels like Lucifer's Hammer and Into the Forest, too. You can find lists of books like that at wikipedia.
