On Monday, New York Knicks guard Stephon Marbury was in Albany, N.Y., promoting his brand of affordable sneakers. He was asked about Michael Vick, and said, according to Newsday:

"We don't say anything about people shooting deers and shooting other animals, you know what I mean? From what I hear, dogfighting is a sport. It's just behind closed doors and I think it's tough that we build Michael Vick up and then we break him down ... I think he fell into a bad situation."

I had the same thought but after discussing this with some intelligent people I realized how stupid it is to compare dogfighting to hunting. First, off, although there are a great number of people who hunt just for sport, the majority of hunters are people hunting in rural areas who are hunting to either feed themselves and their family or keep the population of the deer, bear, etc. under control. Hunters kill their prey in the quickest and most humane way possible. They try for quick kill to ensure the animal suffers as little as possible. Dogfighting, on the other hand, is quite the opposite. A "good" dogfight is one in which the animal fight for a long time with lots of "action", this prolongs the animals suffering as much as possible. Then there is also the "training" that is implemented to prepare to dog's. This generally includes starvation and other means that are used to enrage the dog and get him ready to fight. Then you have the ways in which the dogs are actually killed. This is either by the other dog in the ring or out in the back woods as we have all heard by now. So again, hunting is, for the most part, conducted in the most humane way possible. Dog fighting is about as cruel and inhumane as it gets. That is the big difference and that is why it is just plain stupid to compare the two.

Marbury is ignorant and very classless. For some, hunting is a sport because it is controlled by the law. Dog fighting is not. Since when is dogfighting considered a sport?

Michael Vick broke got himself into this mess. No one put him up to it. The situation was created by him and he should pay the price for it. Marbury should stop trying to blame the media and should blame the person responsible for everything.

for people to compare hunting to dogfighting is just idiotic. Marbury says that the "sport" of dog fighting goes on behind closed doors, which is true he hit that nail right on the head. The problem that I have with what he said is the fact that while hunting deer, bear, turkey, etc etc....you do not trap two animals and have them fight to the death and whch ever one loses you strangle, drown, electrocute or what have you. I personally have seen dogs put down humanely and while that can be a very traumatic experience it is very very different than having two dogs fight to the death.

Hunting is a very different sport than the so called sport of dog fighting (whether it be illegal or not). It is amazing how those who make extraordinary amounts of money seem to get themselves in the most trouble.

My friends and me were joking perhaps Vick and his buddies should be the people that help train police dogs to have them run and tackle them without the benefit of padding.

He is absolutely right, for you idiots who say he sound ignorant without stating why you believe this, are ignorant yourselves...Its a sad day when we put animal lives over human lives, people eat animals everyday, from dogs to monkeys, where do we draw the line, how do we value one animal life more than another ones.. OK Vick screwed up but most of the WHITE media and Amerikkka are throwing him under the bus and running over him with it....then backing up again....hypocrites!!

It's amazing. The man gives millions away to charity, and had a great idea with the cheap sneakers. Still, he finds a way to say the stupidist things (and in this case just down-right repulsive) which is why so many can't stand him.

Not the 1st time Marbury has said something stupid. Whats the deal with so many blacks thinking dog fighting is OK?

Nobody forces these people to hang out with bad people. As an adult he should know better and be able to choose not to do things that he knew were illegal.

I think they need to check on his property for kennels of more fighting dogs, and that he just found the same "bad situation" that plagues Vick. BTW, he can keep his Bloody B Ball shoes!

as they say 'who let this bozo on the bus'. typical comment from a guy they call 'starbury'.maybe he will leave us early and go play ball in europe or wherever he was talking about. I am just glad he is not speaking for my team. Poor knicks fans and NYC natives, this bozo speaking for you and representing your team.

It's illegal and inhumane, that's the difference. I don't know who this guy is but he need to stick to peddling his sneakers and keep his pie hole shut. He obviously doesn't know what he's talking about, he's just trying to kiss to up to somebody.

I don't condone was Michael Vick did with these dogs but I think what Marbury is saying is why is it ok to hunt deers & other animals why is it so inhumane to kill a dog vs a deer? I'm not agreeing I'm just looking at what Marbury is saying.
