- 2(K + 6) - (- 3K - 5) = 1

The distributive property

(- 2k - 12) - ( - 3k - 5) = 1

Remove parenthesis

- 2k - 12 + 3k + 5 = 1

collect like terms

k - 7 = 1

Transpose 7

k = - 7 + 7 = 1 + 7

k = 8

- - - - - - - -

Check

- 2(k + 6) - (- 3k - 5) = 1

- 2(8 + 6) - [ - 3(8) - 5] = 1

- 2(14) - ( - 24 - 5) = 1

- 28 - (- 29) = 1

- 28 + 29 = 1

1 = 1
