I signed up with DISH in January and have been very disappointed and have a way out of my contract and want to switch, but I looked at Directv's site and it looks much more expensive than I remember! For some reason, I remember the 140 channel package to be only a little bit more than the 100 channel package with DISH. Anyone know if this actually happened, or of a way that I can get the 140 channel package for $35-40/mo?

I don't know how much it's gone up. My boyfriend just got it along with NFL Sunday Ticket and they included HBO, Showtime, etc for the next 6 months for free. He's so excited. So am I.

Yes, it has gone up somewhat, but there are so many different packages and add ons now that I'm sure you can find something to fit your needs.

The exciting part about DTV is about to explode in less than 40 days if you're into HD. I was talking to them today as I was upgrading my programming package and the 100 HD channels they have been promising will all be up and running by the end of Sep. The sat is up and they now just doing some fine tuning in preperation. I asked the lady about billing and she said the $10 a month for the HD package will stay the same for a while.

I am SO psyched! I just wish I was a new susbsciber instead of existing for 8 years so I could enjoy some of the free stuff like the person above me. I had to shell out $350 for MY NFL Ticket w/ Superfan and buy my own HD DVR.

Oh well, it's still worth it!

I am not too sure how much it went up but I have been with DirecTV for about 7 years now and my bill has NEVER gone up, I even have a package of the 185 Standard Definition channels that is NOT even offered any longer. I called to see if switching to one of the other choice would be better price wise for me but with my setup of 5 DirecTV Tivo's and 1 regular receiver I could NOT get a better price..

I WILL switch from DirecTV when they stop allowing me to use my DirecTV Tivo's though, it IS what has kept me a loyal customer so far..

Hex92 doesn't quite understand his/her price increase. The $10 was most likely a special new customer offer that usually lasts for about a year and then once it expires the price DOES go up to the normal price.

However, keep in mind due to industry demands, charges by other companies (such as the networks that get paid by DTV to provide their programming), the prices CAN go up, and DTV usually tries to keep the increase for the customer at a minimum.

Usually the price increases happen around early March, and they're usually about $2-3 for the base packages.

A good example of one of the prince increases was HBO. It's now $1 more than the other movie packages because HBO is charging more for their programming and DTV has to compensate for that.
