Baseball is a more tradition-bound sport than football.

I think the baseball purists want to keep replay out of the game. Some say that because baseball is such a long season, through the course of 162 games, calls even out in the end. Plus more breaks in the action means longer games.

But I think replay would be effective in limited applications. The most logical way to bring the technology into baseball without lengthening the game even more would be to give managers one or two challenges, just like in the NFL, which would then require umpires to review TV replays.

I think replay makes sense on only certain types of plays though. For instance, whether a home run ball is fair or foul, or hit above or below a line on an outfield wall designating a home run. But ball/strike calls or judgment calls would be exempt.

I think that all of the technological advances that are now available would help the game tremendously. The umpires do a great job on the whole, but there have been many key miscalls or no-calls in key situations in big games that could have been given a second look had replay been instituted. I think it is just a matter of time before we see it in baseball.

Yep, baseball has a lot of tradition and they don't like changing anything... It would be very easy to apply instant replay to baseball, but the "tradition" gets in the way.

It would help make some close calls more accurate but baseball has a lot of tradition and they just don't want to change anything. If they could add the camera to Wimbledon, they could change MLB.
