I plan on hanging up some very large mirrors and since they are so heavy I was going to use my stud finder. Do I need to use the plastic wall anchors for the screws or will the wood hold the screw?

Plastic anchors are specifically made to go into drywall, not studs. They open up behind the drywall to give support to the item you're hanging. You won't need them if you're drilling into studs or plaster.

If the mirror is very large, I would recommend drilling it into as many studs as possible, and using an anchor in the exposed drywall area just to be sure.

Make sure the screws and/or anchors you are using will support the weight of your mirror. The package should tell you the wright it will hold, and I always recommend overestimating the weight of what you're hanging. For instance, if your mirror weighs 60 pounds, use anchors that will support 100 pounds.

You don't need anchors to screw into a stud and its the strongest possibility. If for some reason you cant hit a stud don't use plastic anchors a toggle bolt has much more holding strength and are available down to 1/8 inch so the hole wont be bigger than the bracket.

If you hit the studs you should be fine, if you use proper size wood screws. Wall anchors are used when you can't hit stud, that is in dry wall only.

You only need to screw into the studs. You won't be able to get a wall anchor in if a stud is behind it. Drill a hole slightly smaller than the screw first so you won't splinter the stud.

Depends on the weight of the mirror and how it is ready to be hung or attached. Be sure to check all the framed mirrors for how the wires are attached-(wires for hanging to a single nail on the wall). Wired types must be wired to screws on the frames and the frames must be sound at every corner and at every wire connection . Wire guage and condition is very important as well.If the mirror unit is less than 200 lbs. you can safelly hang it from a large guage nail-(soft steel and at least 4 inch's in length) when carefully driven into the center of a wood stud at a 45 degree angle (pointing up and away) at the wall.

No, the plastic hangers are only for when the screws will not hit a stud. Screwing into studs is the perfect way to mount anything.
