I think weak-minded who have no moral argument think that waving the flag makes their argument moral and righteous because they think arguing in such manner is for the country thus it is moral. It is like saying the aim is what matters, how you achieve your aim doesn't matter, in the end you are only protecting your country. Other countries are of lesser degree to them, that is moral to them.
The flag is the excuse for bad behavior.
Edit: some are answering this question with the same no point argument just to confirm your point. it is Ironic

Any person anywhere in the world who worships a "flag" is unfortunately susceptible to supporting all kinds of atrocities.
Think for yourself, never commit violence for an "idea" or a "symbol".
It is the ACTIONS of your country that you have to look at, not the flag--that's just a piece of cloth and is meaningless. If you support your country's actions fine, if not, then protest them and change them. But don't let some flag made in Taiwan guide your life.

Lol, my favorite one of those so far, was about a month before Giuliani started campaigning, he had a commercial for kind of home carbon monoxide detector, where he was sitting on a couch discussing the importance of this groundbreaking new safety device, and there was a really tacky American flag pillow sitting next to him the whole time. That's actually how I knew he was running.

Conservatives and Liberals wrap the US Flag to be "patriotic." It is a advertising and Marketing strategy designed to silence their critics whether they are Liberal or Conservative. It will never stop since it is protected under Freedom of Expression.

Voltaire, the French educator and intellectual, over one hundred years ago said " Patriotism is the last refuge of scoundrels" The modern day Republicans have thrived on positioning everyone not in their league as unpatriotic, all the while demeaning real patiotism.

Anytime you can wrap an argument in God, mom apple pie and the flag, you have a winner. It's an easy argument to make. In depth arguments involve much more but when you have to convince a large group quickly, you pull the patriotism heart strings.

talk about week minded. the media has led you and your little Friends to confuse patriotism with immorality. just because the nice newsman hates America does not mean that you must also.
ask your grand parents? you shouldn't assume that everyone else here is a child (or someone who thinks like one).
if it was your grandparents that were around during WWII, you have obviously never had a discussion with them about patriotism. those were very different days. back then you would shun the unpatriotic (both of them). one would never take pride in self hatred, it would be seen as mental illness.

You're just a baby killing hippie who wants to overthrow this country and turn it into a dope smoking commie paradise.
Why else would you attack the flag and make Jesus cry?
The above are the Bill O'Reilly "War on Christmas,Jesus,The Flag and Everything American",talking points, which have been drilled into the heads of righteous little wingers everywhere.

Seems like that is the right thing to do here in the "No Logic Zone". Just ask any neocon.
Works the same way as calling something non-partisan, or "fair and balanced" while helping people with poor critical thinking skills know what to think about a situation.
