The edge of my counter is 5 inches longer than the edge of my cabinet. I have 4 inches of drywall after that and then the sliding doors. What's the standard for backsplash alignment?

Ideally the counter and wall cabinets would line up, but if not, this is a matter of your preference. I would go flush with the counter and miter the bull-nose back into the cabinets. Possibly you could continue all the way up the edge of the cabinet. Its hard to say what would look best without seeing it. You could try taping the tiles in place to see what your options will look like.

The backsplash should not go beyond the end of the cabinets, but this is a different situation. Five inches without a backslplash is going to look pretty bad. So you need to run the backsplash out. It isnt goint to be pretty.

Mine lines up to the edge of the counter although that also happens to be the end of the cabinet as well. I would take it to the end of the counter otherwise visually it would look unfinished but only as high as the bottom of the cabinet.

Look at ALL the DYI shows and the tile lines up with the inside edge of the cabinets. If it goes past the cabinets and a mitre is cut as suggested above it will look really wrong.
