When I was about eight or so, the neighborhood kids and I would play hide-and-go-seek in the early evenings in our front yards from dusk to darkness. There were about a dozen of us or so, and we had a blast. Afterwords, in the summer, we would all catch lightening bugs. This happened for me some sixty years ago and I think of that golden time often.

I grew up in a neighborhood full of kids,it was real country and set at the bottom of a mountain.We played everything from kick the can to hide and seek.But when we played kick ball,we meant business.Man,I miss those days.It makes me want to play it right now.

stick ball, yes we actually used to play this as a kid in NYC. We'd cut off the brush from the broomstick, and use the actual stick as a bat. The ball would be a rubber racquetball. We'd play in a vacant lot or on our block. Now I play JV baseball for my high school so it payed off ;)

When I was little(under the age of 9) it was WAR. War was played by thowing clods of Indiana clay from the field at your friends(divided into two teams).
The first team to either quit because they were tired of throwing clods,or quit because they were all hurt was the loser.
As I was a little older,it was LAWN DARTS!!! Good answer to the above person!

I don't remember the name of it, but we would do different "tricks" while bouncing a ball. Each time the number of bounces would go up. If you missed, you were out and the next person had a turn.

Bulldog. Running like crazy to get to the other side. Tripping up and opening my palms on gravel and have bandages on them for days. Good times.
