You want to make sure even when you are pursuing the ball carrier that you have a good bend in your knees and you want to make sure you always keep your eyes up. If you look to the ground you are going to go to the ground or even worse you could break your neck. So keep your head up...

You want a little bit of forward lean. Use your hands to rock back the shoulders of blockers and use your hands to rip away blockers arms from getting a hold of you. When you are trying to tackle someone in the open field you need to make sure that your pad level is lower than their pad level. Low man almost always win. Don't watch their head or shoulders, focus on their stomach; so you don't get juked. When you make contact you want to stick your helmet right into their chest and wrap your arms up and around the frame work of their body.

Get a good grip and grab cloth. Explode up with your hips and move your feet with short rapid firing steps on your toes. Like they say try to take a thousand six-inch steps and drive the ball carrier back. Stop their momentum and their legs from moving and use your body weight or their momentum to bring them down. If you are the second guy to the tackle, run as quick as you can and lower your shoulder, give them a huge shot and wrap up. If your third guy to the pile go for the football and try to rip it out of the carriers hands. Never give up on a play. Try to get 11 people to the ball carrier.

If you follow ryboyin's tip you will be sent off straigt away.

The object assuming you are talking about the beautiful game (proper football-not the American version) is to win the ball without commiting a foul. You nust always go for the ball and not the players legs. They call that Rugby tackling

1. Grab the player to want to tackle, below the waist somewhere is better than anything that would risk holding or facemask, etc...
2. Wrestle him to the ground, without committing a penalty

Pretty simple

Listen to your coach, he's there for a reason. Probably 80% of Y!Answerers probably never stepped foot on a football field. I never came off the field, true ironman football, but my advice is listen to your coach.

I know this might sound weird coming from me but it works... try getting low enough so when you hit them your shoulder is right by their hip grab and slam em back... if you throw their balance off they're going down... or if you want to get crazy with it wait for them to charge at you get down again lined with their hips and use their weight and speed to throw them over you... any size can do this just be careful doing it.

Crouch low at the hips and keep your head up when you wrap them up around their waist. Explode from your hips and drive yourself through them. Always drive with your legs for reassurance.

well, i go for the knees, because they're usually pretty weak, trust me, i have taken some pretty big guys down by going for the knees. otherwise, put your shoulder down and hit them in the gut. kinda painful, but it works. good luck!
