My son just had his 1st birthday and I was pregnant during the hottest part of the summer. If you are not a big eater or drinker eat a slice of watermelon. You are getting something in your stomache plus getting some water. You don't have to drink alot. Stay in the shade and out of the sun as much as you can and drink however much you are comfortable with. Don't worry about the baby it will be just fine.

You NEED to be 'fully and frequently hydrated' when you are pregnant ... if you can't eat or drink a huge amount, then you MUST eat 'smaller and more frequent meals' and ALWAYS carry a bottle of water and take 'sips' from it every fifteen minutes ... I doubt that you did any damage to your baby through the 'dehydration' ... but the vomiting can cause a ketone buildup in your blood which can cause 'retardation' of your child ... and that 'severe migraine' is something you don't EVER want to get when you are pregnant. Ask your ob/gyn to give you 'tests' to see if you can identify the 'source' of your migraine (if you didn't already have them before you got pregnant) and see if something can't be found that you can safely take to prevent them in the future of this pregnancy.
YOU must 'take responsibility' for both your own health and your baby's health ... and because you are pregnant, I am NOT going to give you any 'good tips' ... but I am going to tell you to see your ob/gyn and have a 'long and serious talk' about these 'severe medical conditions' you are experiencing. SEE THE DOCTOR NOW, not at your 'next appointment.'

I had an IV at 6 weeks. I'd been vomiting blood because of my nausea and heartburn, and became dehydrated. Yes, dehydration can be harmful to you and the baby. It's important that you keep down liquids, if nothing else. If you can't you'll have to continue intravenous fluids...sometimes, when things are really bad, this can be set up to do at home instead of in a hospital. However, that's generally reserved for the absolute most severe cases of pregnancy sickness, so my suggestion is to start small and work your way up. Try small sips of fluids - drinking too much at once can overload your stomach and be counterproductive to the situation. Water is actually harsh on an upset stomach (it doesn't have the right pH). Instead, try Coke or ginger ale with the fizz stirred out of it. I drank Pedialyte when I was really sick, that helped me a lot. It was easy for me to keep it down if I sipped it, and the flavors taste similar to melted popsicles. If you continue to have trouble keeping liquids down, ask your doctor about nausea medication that's safe to take during pregnancy when needed...I've been on Zofran for a month, and it has really helped. Best of luck, hope you feel better soon.

This should not have harmed the baby but you'll want to increase your food and liquid intake. If you are not a big eater / drinker, you'll want to have 5 snacks a day w/ water, juice, or milk. Wake up and have an egg, toast, and OJ. About 3 hrs later have an apple, peanut butter, and milk. A couple of hrs later have 1/2 slice bread, turkey, cheese, yogurt and water. Continue to have little mini-meals w/ drinks and this will decrease your chances of dehydration. If you are constantly sick, find something that you can tolerate...crackers, fruit (watermelon and grapes), or toast. Keep trying to add to your diet...the nausea will soon past.

Don't worry about your baby this time. Your baby will suck everything it needs from you, and you will be the one that suffers by not having enough nutrients or water in your system

I have had a few rounds with dehydration so far (I'm 30 weeks) but none that have landed me in the hospital. I have found that drinking Gatorade will quench my thirst & will help to keep me hydrated. Also, try to avoid strenuous actiivities in the heat or the day, and stay in the AC as much as possible.

Good luck!

Whether you are are an eater/drinker or not, it's no longer about you, it's about your baby. Drink the recommended amount of water on a daily basis and go back to your old habits after you've given birth.

There are so many drinks available to keep you dehydrated you surely can find something you like.Propel or gatorade would work well. They offer a few extras.I know propel even has one with extra calcium.Vitamin waters also are tastey. They tend to carry more sugar content though...they all offer tons of flavors...if not you need to ask dr for a pill..they offer for morning sickness is that whats making you dry?good luck..the pill never worked on me..lol

Gatorade is a good reredehydrater. Also I was told by the nurse when I was dehydrated that if you boil water then stick a bullion cube in it and drink the broth that it will keep you hydrated. Trust me the bullion cube works for me! Good luck and I am sure that the baby will be fine.

you have to be CAREFUL when you are pregnant! My first pregnancy, I was in the hospital every other week because of dehydration. You can try Angel Milk. Very nutritional. Also, you should try carrying around bottles of water, even if you put in the lemonade powders or kool-aid powders, some water is better than none.
