Hey my friend. I would have to say Julius Caesar. Not only do I have a portrait of him tattooed on my arm, but I would also have to say he was phenomenal at what he did. Every leader to have ever lived after him looked up to him and his decisions. I have read just about everything on Caesar, and while he may have done a lot of crazy and hectic things during his reign, he wasn't too happy about them. He did what he did for his people and to better Rome. He tried to do without the blood and gore when he conquered countries (unlike Hitler), but most civilizations attacked like anyone would, so war began. And everything he conquered was constantly being constructed to be like Rome (because they were the best of the best at the time being). And there's no doubt in my mind that Caesar knew he was going to be killed, he wasn't happy living the way he did, he just didn't think Brutis would have anything to do with it, hence "not you, Brutis my son" during his stabbing. I could go on and on all day, but those are just a few reasons why I think he was the greatest, instead of just shouting out a name without reasons.

Cool! Astrologically speaking, most of your greatest commanders and leaders of all time had either sun in Libra, many planets in Libra or the 7th house, Libra on the 10th, or Libra rising, or Venus/Pluto or Mars aspects. They were the ultimate strategists, peacekeepers, and war generals. When the smooth tongue of velvet didn't work, or the velvet glove didn't work, out came the fist of iron, which many were totally unprepared for.

You know!
Since you're in the wrong section "Horoscopes", I would say LEO of course.
Fictional character greatest commander was "General Maximus Decimus Meridius".
Non-fictional character - I would say Randy Carlyle, Head Coach of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, who won the 2006-2007 NHL Stanley Cup.

Something tells me someone is waiting for us to unanimously decide on "Aries"...
As for leader - risking some thumbs down right now just by saying the name... - Michael Collins. He was never officially a leader but he bleeding led some great things in his short life and you can't argue with the rakes of people following him.
(And mixing Astrology with it, because I want to, Michael Collins was a Libra with mars in Capricorn. Those usually make good leaders... mars in Capricorn, I mean!)
