To control the USA and weaken our leverage over them to the point where they can have more of a say on how things go.
Someday, they can just announce they are taking Taiwan back, and we will be too reliant on them to even think about stopping them. They may even make a move on Japan and start branching out again into asia as far as spreading commnunism, last time they did that we were a strong democratic country which fought them tooth and nail, next time, we wont be nearly as strong and not nearly as democratic, and not nearly so able to take them on.

They're looking for leverage to stop future expansion of democracy. They know that pumping billions and billions into an arms race will not work - we bankrupted Russia. They seem to be trying to exploit the high costs of a free, democratic society. We believe in human rights, due process, freedom of the press, etc. The Chinese will exploit these freedoms and use them against us.
Openly argumentative, foreign policy debates in our country may be construed as a sign of weakness by the world. However, that's what makes our country great. I think that China along with other countries (Korea, Iran, Russia, etc.) see the internal bickering as an opportunity to create strategic, socialist relationships throughout the world. Gaining a foothold in developing nations isn't as expensive or politically controversial as invading a country.
Their plan is to stay in power and thwart a democratic uprising in their own country. Socialism does not work. They have seen it fail time and time again. I really think they are very worried about staying in power. While the threats against Taiwan are real, the bigger issues are more economic than military.
It is already happening as you mentioned. The military option against Taiwan probably wouldn't occur until after they have world support and economic clout against the US. In my opinion, our economy is so massive that currently the Chinese couldn't affect our economy via divesting their currency and bond holdings for more than a few weeks. However, if left unchecked, the Chinese could do some economic damage in the next decade. Once they gain the political and economic leverage they need, they'll practically walk into Taiwan without a shot.
-Just some of my thoughts.

They are bringing in cash by providing cheap labor now, but unlike a third world nation that fritters their money away on flashy stuff for the President, they are investing the proceeds. Eventually, they will hold controlling interests in major international corporations, and start building factories in Africa and South America (to use their cheap labor). Then they will move out of low-tech manufacturing and into hi-tech service industries and replace the EU, Japan and the United States as the world's richest and most powerful nation.
Then, after they own the entire world, they will force all nations to make Chairman Mao's Quotations required reading in all schools and the state will whither away as the world unites under the banner of Chinese Communism.

I don't think there's any secret plan. We're shipping all of our manufacturing jobs overseas and they're gladly accepting them.
We're getting to the point we'll be importing virtually everything we need to survive, we'll be totally dependent on a flow of goods from the third world and except for military equipment, we won't manufacture much of anything here.
Our debt is spiraling out of control. They have to take 20 cents out of every dollar the government takes in just to pay the interest on the debt. If it gets too much worse the fed will have to print more money, devaluing our dollar further, just to keep up with payments.
What's going to get really interesting is when foreign countries stop buying our debt (which we sell to the tune of $5,000,000,000 A DAY!!). It isn't going to be pretty.

The Chinese plan in the long term. Maybe not till the next generation or two before they make their move. In the grand scheme of taking over a powerful country you start with the young . Get them to buy illegal DVDs and CDs. Sell them cheap and let them know where they are from so they begin to trust. Ruin the reputation of large companies that cater to the young in order to cause a distrust in the parent company. If a little brain damage or poisoning occurs the better. Next, ally yourself with past enemies of your opponent. etc. etc. Starting to sound like a political novel yet?

well we are in a very vulnerable position - they can pull the rug from under us financially whenever they want - but the other side of the coin is we can cut off trade and pull their "growth out from under them "(but they probably wouldnt care looking at how the majority of people live there) -but as we know they can use this as leverage to have sway with our politicians clinton showed this when he let them buy military technology (or satellite cant remember which)that should not have ever been sold to a foreign nation in the interest of our defense

They have no plan for America. China and the US have good relations. We use their workers to make cheap products. And it gives the Billions of people in China something to do. As long as the trade continues China is not a threat to the US.
The only issue that would start any conflict is Taiwan and thats it.

Same as the Europeans, Japanese, Mexicans, Italians, and rest of the world. Want Americans to spend a lot of money to buy their products and services.

Well, it isn't that much of a secret. China has a long term plan to end the rule of America as the world's sole superpower.
