Yah, I've been hearing about that 'win in Iraq' for about 4 years now, Mission accomplished, huh?

Let me know if it does ever happen.

What a fantasy lol. In order to indulge it we have to forget that no one seems to know exactly what a "win" would look like in Iraq.

I don't think it would make any difference at all. The country has "war exhaustion" and they blame the Republicans for it. Having a "win" the day before the election wouldn't change the feeling that the last four years has been an exercise in bad management by the Republicans. The vote would proceed as it would without it. Especially since the war isn't the only reason the country is mad at the Republicans. Our citizens aren't too happy with this Administration in general and has the perception that corruption is rampant in the White House. Not to mention so many of us who feel we were lied to about the war to begin with. A win wouldn't make that perception go away.

I foresee a tight race if ANY of the current front-runners get the nomination. I, more often than not, vote Democrat. I will not, however, vote for any of the "top tier" Democrats currently running. Of course, the Republican side of the ticket isn't much better. I see a disaster coming if any of the top seeds make it to the White House. There are a couple of "second-tier" candidates I like, from both sides of the aisle. All of them are too honest and intelligent to expect "the nod", though... Given the current crop to choose from, I am supporting a Republican for the first time since 1984.

Believe it or not, a win in Iraq before the election would benefit the democrats. The main reason is that neither the President nor the Vice-President are running. This means there is no Republican candidate that could rightly accept the laurels. It would also take Iraq off the table which also would favor the democrats who would rather focus on domestic issues.

The Iraqi soccer team won a championship - does that count?
Because THAT is the only win this war has experienced to date - and it was won by the Iraqi's!

Here is another hypothetical - what would have happened if Dumb-azz Dubbya had the brains to listen to Colin Powell and other top military leaders BEFORE starting this war?

Even his father knew better!

and just how would victory be decided in Iraq?

i have yet to hear any neocon, elected official or not, explain just what constitutes a victory in this war.

besides, even the neocons in power believe that we will be fighting terrorists "for another 100 years"...so winning in Iraq by any standard is recognized as an impossibility by both libs and cons

That would mean that the war would have dragged out for 14 months beyond this date. Our casualties by then could easy be 5000. How is that beneficial to the Republicans or the country?

I dont forsee that happening. It doesnt matter, the Reps arent doing a good job at fighting it and the Dems want to pull out. We are screwed either way, unless a candidate comes up with something more intelligent

Oh yeah, did you know that soldiers can fire unless they have permission first (even if they are fired upon!) Hell, we beat ourselves. If we wanted to, we could wiped out any terrorists we see and

Not much, they have still funded the war, and did promise to get the job done and get out during their campaigns last election, despite what right-wing media tells you.

As long as we are discussing fictitious things that will never happen, the Democrats would all grow wings and fly away.
