I have had regular periods for many years, I got my first period when I was 10 years old. My husband and I want to get pregnant and we've been doing the ovulation predictor kits that test your urine and also the basil body temp. I never seem to have a hormone surge using either method. Is it possible I am not ovulating?

I haven't been on birth control for at least 6 months and when I was it was the patch and I was on it for about 2 years.

Please help I really want to start our family.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for all the advice, I do have cervical fluid/discharge and just started reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility.

Is it possible to have the discharge and not ovulate?

it is possible to have your period and not ovulate, I would suggest to keep charting and call your doctor after a few months of charting. They can go over them with you and talk to you about options/medication ect that could help with getting a good egg to release.

Every body is different and you may be ovulating but may not have a high enough hormone level to trigger the test.

If you are having cm try charting that and if you are getting the stretchy egg whiteish cm then chances are you are ovulating it's just not being picked up on the opk tests.

Good luck and try to keep positive, stress can make you not ovulate

It is possible to have cm and not ovulate. Your body may attempt to ovulate which would signal the production of cm but never actually release the egg. Is your cm really stretchy and similar to raw egg whites? Many women have cm of some kind all cycle long. That book is awsome and will help a lot. Keep charting and if nothing happens in a couple of months take all your charts to see your doctor. Also you could possibly only ovulate every other month. A lot can be done for women who are not ovulating. You are definitely doing all the right things. Remember if you aren't pregnant in a couple more cycles and you don't have a thermal shift or any positive opk's see your doctor. Good luck ttc!!!

I personally think the answer is yes you do not need to ovulate to have periods although I would think it isn't really common. I get pretty harsh/strong ovulation pains and after having a miscarriage last year I still had periods but no ovulation pain for about 6 months(I also took ovulation tests with no +). My doctor talked about putting me on clomid to start ovulation but I decided to wait it out. I went on the pill for a few months in hopes that it would get things working again. I assume it worked because I am 9wks pregnant.

After all you do have periods without ovulation while on birth control. This article is a little off subject but does touch the subject at the end.

I had regular periods also but only because I was on birth control. once I got off BC I only got a few periods and then they stopped altogether. I went to the dr. and got blood work and an ultrasound done which showed cysts on my ovaries. She then put me on provera to make me have a period and then Clomid to make me ovulate.
I would talk to your dr.go to an OBGYN specialist not just your regular dr. about have those tests done and bring her your charting info and she more then likely put you on Clomid to make you ovulate. It's a very mild fertility drug usually the first one most dr.'s use.
The side effects are bad, I had hot flashes, mood swings and headaches.
Good luck

It is possible to not be ovulating. In addition to charting your Basal Body Temp, try charting your other fertility signs as well, such as your cervical fluid & position of your cervix. Include all of the info on your chart so that when you meet with your OB you have all of the information mapped out for them & you will be prepared to answer their questions.

If you want more info on charting these additional fertility signs, I recommend reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility. You can get a demo copy of the charting software by going to http://www.ovusoft.com/

Good luck!

It is possible to get your period and not be ovulating. I was not ovulating but was not getting my period either. You should make an appointment with an OBGYN to discuss fertility and talk to him or her about it. They can definitely help you. My OBGYN put me on Clomid and it has made me ovulate each cycle that I take it.

Good luck and lots of baby dust!!

Yep. the traditional cycle is 28 days, yet countless issues could reason a disruption in that cycle, and a few women in no way have a known cycle. The clean stretchy type is probable a extra powerful indicator than the calendar. in any different case the "rhythm technique" AKA do no longer make love merely before / close after the calendar dictated date time could be a much extra powerful type of start administration. final relatives I knew that trusted the rhythm technique now has six little ones.... ;-)

so when you use your OPKs and BBTs it does not show that you're ovulating...there could be other reasons for this, since you have regular periods, you should talk to your obgyn about this, sometimes with as little as a prescription you could be ok, and they might have to test your husband too, you can also ask an RE (fertility specialist) online for free and see what they think, try www.FErtilityTies.com
good luck!

You are probably ovulating. Some woman don't have enough hormones to produce a healthy egg. I would talk to your doctor about putting you on Clomid. It will help you produce a healthy egg!

Some women do not ovulate. Go see your doctor who check into this for you, and if you aren;t she can give you meds to stimulate your ovaries into ovulating.
