I am attempting to join the Army Rangers and I will serve in war if I have to, whether it be in Iraq, Afghanistan, or Iran, I will serve. I am sick of my fellow Americans being so soft and peace-loving, and complaining about every war we get into. They have to face reality and realize we will never see world peace, but we can get closer to it by fighting terrorists and defending America.

We should start the draft back up, and draft every man and woman 18 years old to 35 years old and throw any draft dodgers into jail for life if it is peace time or hang them if it is a time of war for running away from their country; and this time they will have nowher to hide as Canada will no longer accept draft dodgers.

I intentionally never married and never had kids just so I could serve in the military and go to war without worrying about a bunch of jokes crying over my dead body if I died for this country,

Nothing as we each are afforded our own opinions.

There is a lot wrong with the Iraq war. As Iraq was not a threat to US sovereignty and never purchased uranium as Bush claimed. If you want to live the Ranger life, who can tell you not to? If others, such as myself, are convinced that the Iraq invasion was a huge mistake, who can tell them not to say so? Be safe...

Our friend dodo has touched on a good point. If the public actually found out the extent to which these wars, including Afghanistan, were being planned pre 9/11, it would change the way many look at the attacks. Why do you think Cheney has gone so far to hide everything he has done and is doing. As for this chucklehead, you need to read a book or something. I have a friend who is a Ranger serving in Afghanistan, and I know that you cannot be a dumbass and you better be a badass. Sorry about your luck.

Principles of the Just War
A just war can only be waged as a last resort. All non-violent options must be exhausted before the use of force can be justified.
A war is just only if it is waged by a legitimate authority. Even just causes cannot be served by actions taken by individuals or groups who do not constitute an authority sanctioned by whatever the society and outsiders to the society deem legitimate.
A just war can only be fought to redress a wrong suffered. For example, self-defense against an armed attack is always considered to be a just cause (although the justice of the cause is not sufficient--see point #4). Further, a just war can only be fought with "right" intentions: the only permissible objective of a just war is to redress the injury.
A war can only be just if it is fought with a reasonable chance of success. Deaths and injury incurred in a hopeless cause are not morally justifiable.
The ultimate goal of a just war is to re-establish peace. More specifically, the peace established after the war must be preferable to the peace that would have prevailed if the war had not been fought.
The violence used in the war must be proportional to the injury suffered. States are prohibited from using force not necessary to attain the limited objective of addressing the injury suffered.
The weapons used in war must discriminate between combatants and non-combatants. Civilians are never permissible targets of war, and every effort must be taken to avoid killing civilians. The deaths of civilians are justified only if they are unavoidable victims of a deliberate attack on a military target

Ive read your question and when I was 18 I felt kinda the same way, so I joined the Army. The one thing you must realize is that to kill other human beings you have to practise it over and over. Even when youre away from camp, you go through the stuff in your mind. You vizualize slitting throats, mowing down hundreds of Gooks or Commies!!! you vizualize it in all its gory detail.......because you know the more badass you can be, the better your chances are gonna be for coming home alive (should you ever go to war), now there were no wars while I was serving but when I left the army I discovered that I couldnt stop thinking about killing the enemy. The phuking thoughts haunted me for years!!! I tried to block it all out with drugs, phuking near OD'd many times, phuking near jumped off 2 bridges to end it all....booze didnt do the trick either. I was 28 unemployed and a boozing drug addict and the only thing I knew I was good at was killing people. It took the love of a good woman to help me through all that crap, and once I came back to the real world she was gone. I found out the hard way that once you learn to kill other humans youre phuked for life, just imagine the crap that real war time vets have to work through when theyve actually slit throats and blasted skulls to bits up close and personal??? Imagine the horrors of war, vizualize the dead babies (collatoral damage) imagine the blackened burnt corpses of your friends , your brothers in arms, make sure you know what you really want dood, like they say be careful what you wish for....coz you just might get it.

There is nothing wrong with being pro war, so long as your reasons and your country's reasons are just. I do think that there should be draft of sorts, there are many people who are just not cut out to fight, and there are many women who are but will never get the chance, becuase they were born a woman. For those who wish to dodge the draft, let them, do you want to trust your life in the hands of a person who is forced to fight? They will fight but very poorly for they will not care about the war or the rest of their platoon. I know there are people who wish to join but not fight, becasue they believe that they can serve better behind the lines rather than on the front. You are however being rather insensitive to your friends and family by calling thema bunch of jokes because they care about you, many soldiers look foward to the support that they recieve from their family, and many familes would find your comment harsh and undeserved. I will be a Marine when I am of age and I look forward to protecting what is mine, but I will not insult those who wish to do what they believe is right.

It's good that you want to serve the US, but I think you need to take the patriotism down a notch.

First of all, the problem with being pro-war is that war is terrible. Supporting a war is fine, but pick and choose your battles wisely (obviously, supporting Germany in WW2 would not have been a good thing). War should be a last resort measure.

Second, the draft was terrible. Many did not want to fight and needlessly lost their lives. That's not fair. Not everyone is cut out to be a soldier.

What exactly is right with war? if you think its cool to travel to other countries and kill their young people, their old people and their kids then by all means join the army. You will however discover that its nothing like the movies that Hollywood has raised you on. Unfortunately there are political reasons for Afghanistan and Iraq , have you ever researched why wars happen? (tear yourself away from the mind controlling idiot box at home and look into modern warfare.) What it all boils down to is the rich elite bankers, steel companies, arms dealers, corporate lobbyists and rebuilding contracters creating more wealth for themselves and their families while sending young recruits to their deaths. Its not glorious its not heroic, its not even patriotic......its always about the rich using humans as cannon fodder to make themselves richer, you need to grow up and face some true reality my friend.

There is nothing wrong with being pro-war if it is the right war for the right reason. In our current situation many who have been critical of the war in Iraq would support a war to get Bin Laden. It simply boils down to priorities. Was a two bit dictator that was no threat to the US more important than the master of the organization that perpetrated the 9/11 attacks.

IMHO war is stupid and wrong. Historically, the only plausible positive result I could see from war was a curb on human population. With the Earth's current population being around 6.5 billion, war would have to go nuclear to make an appreciable dent. The only sensible way I could see to curb population would be a global rethink on reproduction. That probably won't happen any time soon and we'll have to rely on massive and unprecedented natural disasters and diseases to bring human population back to sustainable levels. War for peace? Al-Qaeda was responsible for killing 3,000+ Americans on 9/11. Has that inspired peace? The U.S. invasion in Iraq has given al-Qaeda it's most powerful recruitment message ever. Violence begets violence. When I hear someone is pro-war I hear someone who wants to kill people, or someone who wants to make money for the military-industrial complex.

Good thing your mom or dad didn't do the same. If we all did, there'd be nothing left to defend lol

There's nothing wrong with war as long as it is fought in the DEFENSE of this great nation and is not a war of conquest, vindictiveness or personal or party wide political gain.

As is so typical in this country, you are pro-war and gee, how coincidental that you are also woefully, abysmally, EMBARRASSINGLY undereducated. Your values might be different if you had ever gotten a proper education.

Instead, you're just cannon-fodder. And that is why it angers the rest of us, because our leaders shouldn't waste human lives (even the lives of ignorant people like yourself) to further the cause of their stupidity.

And it irks us also because if they can continue to brainwash you into rushing to defend us from phony threats, then other innocent people around the world will continue to be slaughtered just because you're a tool that likes to take orders.

Try reading a book sometime. If you're so courageous to go off to war, then you should be just as courageous to pick up a book that might change your mind about patriotism.

Titles:
Johnny Got His Gun
The Grapes of Wrath
A People's History of America

Movies:
Paths of Glory

Come on tough guy, I dare you. Try a little education first. There's always time to do that first, before going off to torch some unarmed little brown foreign people.
