A newborn or 9 week old should not be on a schedule. They sleep when they are tired and that could be every hour and they can sleep for 5 minutes or 2 hours. They need rest to grow and they usually wake when they are hungry.

There is no set number each baby is different. My 10 week old only took a couple 20 min naps when he was 6-8 weeks old and still at 10 weeks only naps for about 15 min. a couple times a day. Once in awhile he'll sleep for an hour but they change napping times almost daily. As long as the baby is happy, healthy, eating fine let the baby decide when to nap and how long.

A two month old will sleep around 18 hours out of 24.

They might cat nap or take a long three hour nap. Its different with each baby. You can start getting a schedule going by keeping day time bright and busy, (but allowing for atleast three good naps in a quiet place) and keeping night time dark and quiet.

At 9 weeks my daughter was taking about 4 naps a day and each one was about 45 min or so. I think the rule of thumb is that at that age they should go back to sleep about 2 hours after waking up during the day. That way they won't get too overtired and fussy.

A 9 week old baby won't really be on a napping schedule yet so it could very from 20 min to 3 hrs.

It is different from child to child. Most doctors and nurses says 12-15 hours sleep a day. My son is 9 weeks old and is mostly awake during the day and sleeps from 8 at night until 8 the next morning.

There is no rule, let that baby sleep unless she is not eating and loosing weight, i would not be concerned. If she is not sleeping much then it is still OK. My son starting sleeping through the night at 4 weeks old and took less naps during the day, but many newborns (i know) sleep much more during the day and less at night or an equal ratio. If you are truly concerned then i would talk to your pediatrician, otherwise relax, newborns sleep, that's what they do.

They sleep as much as they want, that's their job at this age. My twins are 12 1/2 weeks and I can't even tell you how many times they nap because they sleep whenever they want to.

If you want play time, you can do it after they feed for about 5-10 minutes and then your baby would probably start getting sleepy and fussy then.

There really is no rhyme or rhythm to it with babies that young. They will sleep when they feel sleepy and wake when they are hungry. That's just the way it goes. If you are asking because your baby spends a lot of time being awake and alert, that's a good thing. That shows that they are very observant and you may have a little smartie on your hands!

A nine week old baby will be sleeping a lot. They usually sleep and wake up to eat! When they are awake interact with the baby to stimulate its learning curve... Talk to baby and play etc.
