In my location, the A&W has the best hot dogs. Their chili dog is absolutely scrumptious.

By fast food places do you mean franchises? I think the best hot dogs come from local shops and not any that are nationwide. Here in Chicago we have TONS of GREAT hot dog places in a variety of styles. So my recommendation, find a local hot dog joint.

no fast food place in maine has hot dogs but mcdonalds did like 6 years ago during the summer time just that one summer

For a franchise, it is a tie between Nathan's (if I'm in the northeast) and James' Coney Island (if I'm home in Texas).
I don't know if Sabrett counts as a franchise, but I used to love those pushcart hot dogs in NYC when I was a kid.
