Darlin.. at 59 I look at the world and wonder how come it is so much worse than it was when we ~ your grandparents' generation~ were younger. How did we let it get so much worse?
You can eat yourself up worrying. You can spread yourself thin over lots of things. Or you can start in ONE small corner and make one SMALL contribution and KNOW you are doing something wonderful. You will KNOW where your time and / or money go.
Let me give you a few links here with ideas. In Bangladesh Dr. Yunis started the micro banking system to the poorest of the poor. He has changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. There are a few such organizations. What they do is lend what people need to start, the poorest of the poor. No interest. A flat out loan usually to women or beggars, those who the banks scorn.
"Business Week Has Named Dr. Yunus as One of "The Greatest Entrepreneurs of All Time"
"Yunus, the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner, founded a banking system 30 years ago to lend small amounts of money to the rural poor in Bangladeshi villages. Most of the low-interest microloans go to women, who use them to start their own profit-making enterprises, mainly in agriculture, crafts, or services."
Unlike conventional bank Grameen Bank provides credits (Microcredit) to the poor people without any collateral. As of May, 2006, it has 6.61 million borrowers, 97 percent of whom are women. General banking conception is poor people would not be able to repay; in fact, repayment rates of Grameen Bank reached 99 percent and millions of people came out of poverty using Microcredit concept of Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
Giving to such an organization you know you are not changing the lives of millions OR propping up a corrupt regime, you are helping an INDIVIDUAL. And really, we can only do these things one at a time if change is to be lasting and good.

http://www.grameen-info.org/
There is also KIVA.
http://www.kiva.org/a system whereby people join together financially on line to fund people from poor countries to begin their small businesses.
With Kiva, you can meet the people you help.
Honestly, you are a very wonderful young person to see and sense these things in these days of selfishness. I think these two places are a place to start so that you know your money and effort will seriously help, not line some fat cat's pockets.
However, honey. Realize that there is genocide against the poor in your own country. Including America.
The important thing to remember, dear, is not to let the size and girth of this international problem touch your soul. Do not let it depress you to the point it takes over your life, and yes, this is possible. Just do what you can as best you can and live a good life incorporating compassion and your present awareness into everything you do and you will certainly help.

Hello there.
I am not 18 years much older and I too have a very bad
feeling when I hear and see so much poverty in this world.
The problem why at least 100 million people in this world
are of the same opinion as we both. Everyone is afraid
that the money we donate will not land for the purpose
but for the corrupt governments and officials.
I think if we find 1000 persons like us who are willing to
join a sort of association then there could be so much
improvements in these poor countries,
Give me a signal and we can start the thing rolling.

Yes, it is very sad. Unfortunately, the countries you describe are usually run by very corrupt governments (far more corrupt than ours) with leaders that will steal any form of aid that is sent to their countries, especially money. Your best bet would be to volunteer your time or donate to an organization that specializes in aiding poor nations as they know how to get some aid past the thieves.
It is great to see someone that wishes to make a difference - Good luck.

Quit worrying about people in other countries. There are several people right here in the United States that could use your help. Do you not feel more of a connection to a US citizen than a kid in a country you have never been to? Yes it is sad to see the conditions in other countries and I will be first in line to help---right after we fix the problems in our own country. If you just found out that your neighbor lost their job and were in danger of not making their next house payment would you help them or give that same help to someone you had no connection with.

The reality is if Osama like humans bombs Latin American ports US America financial system crashes worse than the 30s in view that Latinos sells such a lot meals and uncooked constituents and purchase such a lot matters to America. They also are affordable paintings drive to many US businesses that desperately want paintings drive, so they're facet of your financial system and helps your culture, so a cleaning warfare or regulation will make matters worse for every body. If you relatively wish Latinos out of America, ship them to guard their ports and towns. America demands that and they may be able to promote your items alternatively. The crisis is they want order, a proposal such a lot don't realise. Latinos may also be disturbing however are kind of allies. Not all are freaking criminals, such a lot best wish to carry cash to their households. When humans are deficient, criminals look among them. It's occur all over. If you ever come to Latin America you realise that for such a lot humans Americans are in a close to god state for them. Your cash is sufficient right here to shop for a tremendous residence and make a good trade. You may have plenty of possibilities round right here, although you hate Latinos.

The poorest countries are in africa, The problem there is that much of the starvation is government inflicted and food aid is often siezed and never reaches the starving people.

i have a friend whose nephew was in the peace corps. they do a lot of good. he spent a lot of time in africa moving from village to village. he helped dig new wells and build community ovens.
you're young enough to consider something like that. you would be able to really help without wondering if whatever you donated was actually making it to the people it was intended for.
good luck.
