For more details you should ask an adult lady that you know personally-ideally your mom. But just in case you don't have that opportunity I'll skim over and give you a good idea of what is going on. Your body is shedding the lining of the uterus to prepare for a new egg to come down from the ovaries. Next month that egg and lining will shed again. Periods usually take 4-7 days to finish, and the flow can be heavy at times and sometimes randomly stop for a half a day in the middle-so have an extra pad in your purse for those times. At first, your periods will probably not come exactly one month apart. Be watching about those times, so that when it starts you are ready. Cramping might happen before or during your period, and the best thing to do for those is to be ready to take care of yourself. Have something warm-a heating pad or cozy blanket to put on your abdomen to help. Also drinking warm tea can help. Some women say that walking helps them get rid of cramps, while some say the best thing is a corner of the couch to curl up for a while. Hope this is helpful!

congratulations! well I guess the first thing to tell you if you dont already know is that it will come about every 28 days or so, some women have shorter cycles some have longer, just mark down the day you started and count ahead 28 days to give yourself an idea of when you will start the next month so you wont be caught off guard. Other than that there is nothing you cant do while on your period that you couldnt do otherwise, wear a tampon if you swim of course, lol...you might get a little moody or emotional a week or so before you start and you might get cramps and headaches. I find that taking a hot bath or using heating pads really helps. You also might get bloated, but it will pass. Dont hesitate to ask your mother or other female family or friends if you have questions, that is what she is there for and I think it will make her happy to know that you feel comfortable talking with her. Good luck and welcome to womanhood!

I'm on my second EVER period, and heres what u should know:
CRAMPS: They're nasty little buggers (I'm having a REALLY bad one now) and the things that work best are heating pads and pain meds (Motrin, etc) The meds don't work on me, but they might you.
'SUPPLIES': Tampons and pads, otherwise. Pads are good for an ordinary day: school, work, etc. Tampons are for when you go swimming AND any other. HOWEVER, tampons can give you TSS, toxic shock syndrome. It even says on the box to use pads instead. Using odorless supplies is better than using scented (See below) Scented has extra stuff that can get in your hoo-hoo, and its bad news, so I recommend unscented (either one will work)
COLOR, TEXTURE, ETC: The color can be red, orange, brown and everything in between. Red means it has been in there for the least amount of time, while brown means that its been in there longer. It can be smooth, like pee, or a little chunky. (Few clumps of blood) Anything like that is normal. The smell can be drop-dead smelly or naturally odorless. Mine's odorless, so I can use regular pads or tampons. If yours is a little smelly (or a lot) use pads or tampons that have perfume or smell goods or whatever u call them. This will work.
REGULAR: Red/brown/orange, smooth or few clumps, odorless.
UNNATURAL: Any other color, very chunky, VERY smelly, etc.
If so, see ya OBGYN.
ALL IN ALL: Periods mean you can have a baby (ask parents for more details), so if you are 'active', use a birth control pill. This makes semen unable to get into the egg. Periods are completely natural, so don't worry. All girls get it.'
PS- You can purchase a pill where you don't get your period (for one time) ask your mom or OBGYN (if u have one) for further details.
HOPE THIS HELPS!!!

well this could be a while. Here's some info.but I can't tell you everything since I have no clue how old ya are.
You may get crabby and mad at people for no reason because your period affects your hormones. So don't be affended if nobody doesn't want to be around you for a while. Also you will need plenty of pads or tampons in your purse or pocket for going out.lots at home. And even in your backpack at school. Also if you think you smell a funky smell from down there.Don't worry your brain is playing tricks on you.

If you don't know the biological mechanisms behind your period that's probably a good idea to find out. Just google "why do women menstrate" and you'll find a good ling. I remember knowing that my period was normal, but worrying about why we had them.
You should know that during your teenage years it's normal to have irregular periods, but if you have a period that lasts too long (more than 7 days really) or doesn't appear for over 2 months, seeing your doctor would be a good idea.

I got it recently too!! Well for one, you're gonna start to feel really strange. Your breasts are going to get very sensitive, you might get cramps and back pain, maybe even mood swings. Then comes the obvious part, you're gonna start noticing blood. Not to worry! Just wear a pad so you don't stain your clothes. That can be very embarrasing. Hope that helps
